Whats the difference 501 and 502?

Hi there I'm looking at possibly jumping ship if I can't get my SX3 to behave it's self at TORCH's next all day meet. I would like to know the differences please I've seen a 501 worlds and also the 502, I know both of the 50's are shaft and the 11 is as I'm looking at either of the above the 511 is another option but am not sure. I'm also considering the Durango but not so sure.

Any information would be great.

Next thing is,

1, are these cars reliable?
2, are they robust?

Thank you.

501 is the first belt TRF buggy, 502 is their new shaft drive....

If you're looking for a Tamiya look at a TRF511 or TRF502.

I don't know which is easier to maintain etc. Speak to SteveB via Oople or at TORCH as he has both.

RE the SX3 have a chat with Dan Brown as he's going well with the SX3

The 501-series is long since discontinued. It was replaced by the 511 in 2009. The 511 is slightly softer but much easier to work on.

1. Yes, but the 511 needs Fredrik Emilsson's diff covers and the hard hex balls.
2. Yes, but if you are a skilled crasher perhaps the 511 could do with the stronger 501 family lower arms and Fredrik's upcoming redesigned shock towers.

You can look at my 502X at SHRCCC next meet. I'd have shown you last night ha I known you were going to look at Tamiya.

I wouldn't swap my SX3 for a 511. In fact I know a lot have done the opposite and were very happy to do so.
But it's just me, after two practice runs I found an almost perfect setup where I were struggling with the 410.

if you cannot get an sx3 to behave, then you have problems!

buying a 502/511 is not going to solve your issues
