Hope my fellow londoners are ok?

Forgive me being London centric but i hope those on here that live in London are ok.

So far only my local Tesco has been looted but its getting grimmer by the minute.

Its a disgrace. The mother ******* want shooting! I wouldn't mind so much if they were burning down police stations, but they are ruining good people's lives and burning down their homes. There is no justification for that. Innocent people will die if it doesn't stop soon.

pro4nut 08-08-2011 10:40 PM

OK so the list so far,

Ealing
Walthamstow
Hackney
Bethnal Green
Clapham
Elephant and castle
Croydon
Totenham
Woodgreen
Woolwich

Just heard that Edgware is on the verge of disaster as well

Its nothing to do with a protest theres not enough Police to contain them and they know it. They can do what they want where they want.

Oxygen 08-08-2011 10:55 PM

seems to be kicking off in Camden too at the mo, Looters reported to be heading toward tottenham Ct road too!

Skye 08-08-2011 10:55 PM

I get that, and whilst I don't agree with it I can understand why some might choose to do it. But when innocent people are having their homes burnt to the ground then it's over stepping the mark in a big way!

Although they are also heading up towards Hampstead, can't see them looting designer furnitureshops and kitchen showrooms though..

Just hoping they keep moving away from my area, came home to see the Hackney ladbrokes getting broken into this evening where 2 of my friends were working. I only signed off the refit on that shop 6 months ago. Thank god i changed jobs

+1

I just dont understand how they go out on a second night of looting and it seemed nothing was done to stop it. Yesterday I saw on telly 2 guys carrying a 50" flat screen telly down the street. Absolutely ridiculious.

The violence was on a level you see only in N Ireland and when that happens the police get out the water cannons.

Thats what they should of done here ; at least it would wash most of the shit down the drains. Of course we couldnt do that now as we are a nambi pambi nation and it would be deemed 'heavy handed action' by the authorities.

No doubt these people who got arrested will just have there hands slapped, get away with a fine and let loose to loot, pilege and deal in drugs or whatever they do.

pro4nut 09-08-2011 06:08 AM

It was the 3rd night, started Saturday.

Water cannons can't be used as NO police force on the mainland have them, they are only deployed and on hand in Northern Ireland.

Finally early this morning they started using the armed response armoured trucks to charge them the down, sadly not many of them available.

The police force in London is tiny in comparison to the amount of people rioting there just arent enough of them.

What needed to be done was to shut down the underground and bus networks. I agree that the Police needed to use more force but if they do things will escalate these kids are not using guns yet, but they have them and if that happens we are in a world of pain.

Slate me if you want. this is not racist but I think the army should be brought in and let loose with the scum for target practice. If they cannot act like human beings in our society then they dont desrerve to live in our society. Round them up and send them home.
Also where are the police dogs. I remember at a mid seventies everton-Utd match about 400 fans fighting by the tunnel. A single landrover pulled up out jumped four dogs and the fans ran like hell some even down the tunnel. Peace restored in minutes.

I think it's time for National Service to return, send the little toe-rags out to throw stuff at the Taliban.

Or use them for sweeping mine fields.

I didnt realise that UK police dont have water cannons. Perhaps they should of issued them with bananas( monty python) instead.

I know it exploded into mass rioting but I think the police should of reascted quicker but as you mentioned there resources were limited. And for that reason the police didnt have the manpower to protect the fire engine crews from going in and controling the fires.

Couldnt they have brought in the army, was that an option?

:thumbsup: I don't think they would be so brave if they were out on the front line about to get shot at.

One of the problems is the youth of today (generally as I know this will not apply to all of them) have no respect for authority. The UK has gone soft and now we are seeing the results of this

Can't say I love police but imagine what the situation would be like if there weren't any at all.

extreme behaviour calls for extreme action, this country and it's soft arm of the law make me sick....

just watching the news and it is going on in the center of birmingham now too...

No of course it is not ok, thats not how it was meant to sound. I should have worded it better. The point that I was trying to make was that this all started due to being loosely connected to the killing last week as it appears that it may have been an officer with a twitchy finger.

That being the case, if they were truly upset about the shooting then their anger, frustration, hurt, whatever it may be should be directed at those responsible and not burning down innocent peoples homes and ruining good peoples lives and / or livelihoods.

The problem is, this is now nothing to do with last weeks shooting. This is just scum showing their true colours.

And if it was a choice between burning down a police station, or burning down an innocent persons shop / home / flat and taking away their ability to earn a living or home to live in, then yes I would rather it was the police station.

Of course, I do not condone this at all and would much rather nothing was being burnt down. That goes without saying.

DCM 09-08-2011 07:33 AM

I remember watching the Poll Tax riots back in the 80's, at least they had something to riot about, now this is just opportune mob mentality, there was even opposing gangs fighting in an A&E department.

Me, personally, they do have water cannons in mothballs, army stock etc, bring them out, tear gas cannons, rubber bullets and if they don't work, shoot the looters. But I guarantee, no matter what the Police do, they will be criticised for either being to 'soft' or over reacting.....

Former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan tweets: @VaughanCricket: "Talk of a curfew.. Won't work.. These idiots think they are above the law.. Just send the troops in.. #londonriots"
Tanks and snipers please

jpmatrix 09-08-2011 08:12 AM

Theresa may stated that she wont use the army and the use of watwercannons are ruled out:mad:

This country is going down the shitter.

How are we going to deal with these people. Im sick of this government.

kaszal 09-08-2011 08:17 AM

It must have been absolutely terrifying for people caught up in the riots.

What do they call it when they target the ring leaders and bundle them off in vans... snatch teams?
