TRF201: Servo compatibility?
 

I recently bought a NIB TRF201 at good price. I thought I should buy a good servo for it (I've only been using standard servos like the Futaba S3003 so far, so I'm not looking at the most expensive servos, but at least bearings, a litle more speed and/or power would be nice). So off I went to look in the manual to look up the measurements that my servo needs to have.

I searched, and searched, and searched... but found there was little information about servo sizes - and the ones I did find the measurements from (mostly Savox servos, they list it on their website) don't seem to fit, because the length between the mountings is too big and/or because the wheel of the servo extends 0.8mm too far from the mounts.

I did see however that some people were using servos that according to Tamiya's specs should not fit. This made me wonder... What servos are you using in your TRF201, and what are the following measurements on your servo:

- Horizontal distance between the mounts (should be 48mm according to the manual).
- Distance between bottom of the mounts and top of the servo wheel (should be 12-16mm according to the manual).
- Distance between bottom of the servo and the bottom of the mounts (should be less than 30mm).

no longer have the car so cant measure for youbut i used to run a savox sc 1258 in mine.no problem with it fitting,except when i fitted the rudebits under servo weight the horn would catch slighty when turning right.but to solve this i just fitted an associated servo horn.(or a quick rub with a dremel would have sorted it)

Are you going to use under servo weights, i have the rudebits 72g on mine with savox 4096 servo. The standard mountings can be used but with longer screws, which you will have left over from the kit. You just need to trim the top cover on the right hand side.

Got a savox 1256 or 1257 (the faster one dun remember which) fits just fine.

I run an old Futaba S9451 in mine that I found in my spare parts bin when I built the car. It will eventually be replaced by a BLS551 but the S9451 still works great. Get a Futaba BLS551 from eBay and you will not regret it.

Thanks for the replies and your advice :) Besides this topic I also PM'ed an Oople and Tamiyaclub member about it, and he recommended me the Savox SC1251MG - It's stats are a huge step over the servos I previously owned and I came across a good deal for one.

It's low profile and it's low weight could upset the weight balance, but there's plenty of room for weights due to the size of it :lol: I'm sure there will be some pictures of my new 2WD in the Oople forums soon!
