just use a flat clear on the outside of the shell.

not a very good pic but the black on this shell is matt, the rest is glossy

cheers - what happens though when the shell tumbles etc? does it start looking tatty once the flat clear on the outside flakes off?

If you know anyone who works at a car body shop you could get some fine scotch brite and some other stuff called prep and blend liquid, this will dull it down, it won't flake off either. However unless you have years of practice the finish won't be completely even...

The can method is best. If you scuff the shell very lightly first it will help it hold on.

being a pan car and the abuse they get i thought it would get beasted pretty quick but the owner said he was suprised at how well it held up.
that was plastikote matt clear

what if you put the clear coat on first on the inside then spray over with the black?

jonmiller 03-08-2011 05:47 PM

a shell is glossy on the outside - the finish will always be glossy unless you alter the outside.

ok so how would this look...

stealth black xx4 WE with black wheels, matte black shell, gold window surrounds, white decals

the blue alloy bits and white rod ends might bring some detail to it

tacky? boring?

jonmiller 09-08-2011 03:17 PM

personally i would have white window surrounds instead of gold but....your car your choice buddy

i did think that to tie in with the decals and gives me option to run white wheels also....

nice
