Big bores
 

Noticed that a number of racers at the worlds reverted to the STD Durango shocks due to apparently the big bores not reacting quick enough.

With the Schumacher, Losi, Durango, kyosho, annsman are selling big bored there must be a sweet spot? I.e. Too big etc etc

Would be interesting to compare the bore size across the brands etc.

I have found you can't beat a big boar on old school grass tracks with loads of small rutts and bumps were the shock is working hard. and you are working hard to keep the wheels on the ground

But I did find my old cat sx was good on the small shocks(as long as the oil would stay put:confused:) a few did say to me that they found small shocks better to. i think if the track is smooth with jumps maybe small boar is better?

i use big bore shocks on my lrp shark and i find they work better on the smooth, big jumps of are indoor track then the normal size shocks.

I ran standard shocks last night on our bumpy grass track and really missed the way the car handled the bumps compared to the big bores

I guess the dirt isn't very bumpy?

It will just be a matter of people getting the pistons right.
Due to the extra displaced volume / mm travel combined with a very different bypass flow percentage (i.e. between piston side and barrel) the big bores are going to be a bit more sensitive to piston & oil changes than what people are used to.

It will just take track time to get right and understandably at an event as important as a Worlds drivers will go with what they feel most confident in. Due to the releative amounts of running I guess for many that was the small bore shocks!!

It will take a while for people to home in on what works best for their particular driving style and tracks, also I imagine the variation in setups being posted by drivers with different styles will be more marked when using big bores.

A few of us Kyosho drivers in the UK are in regular communication comparing our findings, sure it's teh same for all the other manufactures drivers too.

Will soon be the norm I feel to have big bores on.
