B44.1 Steering (Need More!)
 

So far I have only been running my B44.1 indoors with the std kit set up and have found that I would like more steering from the car.

This week I had changed from the std set up quite a bit, both shortening the front and rear camber links increased anti-squat and tried the other ackerman position, but still I find there is not enough steering for my liking.
The only thing that I found which helped slighly was that I removed the ballast weight.

Any ideas chaps on how I can gain more steering or inital turn in?

What tyres were you running, and how was the car setup?
Have you got sufficient steering travel, and is the servo saver tight enough?
Do you have any steering expo on the tansmitter?

Do you need it mid corner or initially on entering the corner?

What wheelbase are you running? Try medium or long if your on carpet
Silver springs all round
Outer on rear arms
Silver rear bar no front bar if you want loads of steering!

If your running the kit tyres, get hold of some schumacher yellow minipins, rather than the american kit tyres.

I tried new yellow minispikes which I have been using but was the same when I put new yellow minipins on, apart from grip roll on high speed section.
End points are fully set, I'll check the servo saver but was set as per manual.
I have a KO Esprit II R and expo is fully turned up. I even put the steering punch upto 50% to see if that would help too.

1. More turn in entering the corner

2. I originally run long but went to short last nite. Think I'll revert back to long for next week. I was running the silver rear bar and no bar on the front.

I'll need to try silver rear springs and outer hole on rear arms next time then :thumbsup:

Think I might knock up a thicker rear roll bar and try that also.

What lipos are you running and how heavy are they?
I found more weight at the rear gave more snappy turn in, but more traction coming out.

Depending on where your racing, you might have too much power. Inside at cobra and caldicot, i only ran a 7.5 speed passion motor, and even turned up the drag brake a little more than normal (10%) on the speed passion speedos, and was more than quick enough.

Is anything loose on the steering anywhere?

Also lee, make sure your front diff is slightly tighter than the rear. Go to outer on the rear wishbone and you'll be good. Post your setup here so we can see oils etc.
Take a look on the cml/ae site for bradders' b44.1 indoor setup. That works a treat.

Xcelorin lipos and they weigh 10oz. (280g)
Running SP 6.5 but got it turned down to 65% on the transmitter.
I'll try increasing the brake slightly next time.

I started stripping the front end down but can't find anything loose or even binding.
I tried a fellow racers CAT SX last night and that felt a lot better, steering wise.

Check your diffs then, as this would be the next step for me....

just steering wise ? i had a hell of a job getting you off it :lol: sell the b44.1 and buy a sx3 :thumbsup::thumbsup:

that is the general consensus after going from a b44 to a cat, not trying to be a smartass, but the cat is leagues above the b44 in regards to track handling, quality, and everything else you can think of.

ex b44 owner>now cat man:D

Right then, I've slackened of the rear diff a 1/16th and tightened the front a 1/16th of a turn and gone back to long wheelbase.
I've also moved the arms out on the rear wishbones too.

First outdoors test this Sunday, so I'll see how she performs then......

The SX stuck like poo to a blanket indoors and the steering was nice and responsive.
Think I will stick with the nice & simple B44.1 tho' all those belts and pulleys on the SX is just too much hastle and maintenance.

Right Guys, I tightened the front diff (almost full) and slackened off the rear slightly. I moved the rear shocks out on the wishbones too and it made hell of a difference!
