What is the bennefit of using Kevlar, as last time I looked, it wasn't used as a 'structural' material.....

tcmodels 07-07-2011 07:57 AM

Kevlar gear haveing high tensile strength

DCM 07-07-2011 03:14 PM

Really, I can understand glass reinforced nylon and graphite reinforced but not kevlar, kevlar is good at withstanding impact, but usually has to be mixed with Carbon to obtain any strength.....

Although I would be happily proved wrong.

Kevlar has a high tensile strength, good at resisting stretch, hence why it is used in stab vests, bullet proof armour, ropes, sails etc.... Carbon Composite has greater rigidity (resists deflection when a load is placed on it) hence why it is used to construct aircraft wings, race car chassis's etc.

Ah, I think I know why now, you have used Kevlar to try to stop the nose peice braking, not to stiffen it up, as then you would of used Carbon. Kevlar will give more before cracking or breaking, but Carbon will give you a stiffer part.

just an material which has good result to using on gear, so now we got it, someone has it before we are not the only one, search from internet you will have more information to make you more clear with this material.

Yea now you're on to them.

The new designed front piece is much better than the original but can still break, I'd say the kevlar is more to help those who keep breaking them over out right performance enhancing.

I have mine coming, will put it to the test.

kevlar is not new in RC.

Losi make kevlar spurs for the xxx range.

DCM 08-07-2011 06:54 PM

I know Kevlar is not new, I just queried why, when the peice being made needs to be rigid rather than forgiving, I understand why. If there is an issue, maybe a tweak in design would work better?

Nothing wrong with the kit one!
