Shreaded diffs!
So I was wondering why my rear wheels were locking up and then I opened the diff housing I saw this

1) Check the shims. Make sure there is no sideways movement.
2) Check the input shaft bearings, if these have collapsed that could cause the gears to mash up. 3) Check there is no play in the input shaft. The gear box should have very little play if any. Have a look at the TD tech tips! |

Make sure your slipper isn't too tight
|
this is also a good idea:
http://www.tsrproducts.com/media/pro...e-Shim-Set.pdf Some shims and a 8*5*2,5mm ball bearing is placed between the two larger ball bearings. |
I might be completely wrong! But shouldn't you have some grease in there? Or have you cleaned it up?

You can see in the photos he has used the kit grease, so that shouldn't be why it's lost some teeth.
Not had it happen to mine, so can't help with reasons why. |
You know what I forgot about the slipper. It might be too tight. I'll try that and check if all the shims and bearings are all aligned. And im going to try and get shims for the input shaft and diffs. Thanks so much guys! I'll follow up with you guys with the outcome. And yes the grease came with the kit and instructed to put it.

I would like to stress the importance of a proper gear mesh in the gear box. Be sure to check out the "Pro Build Guide" on the Durango site for the best photo illustrated tips.

Once you get the kinks worked out of the (you) and the car, it will treat you really well.
|
seen that before ad it did not apear to me to be lack of correct shimming it looked more like a poor casting where the teeth had failed and not been wearing.

The ring gear provided with the R version are weaker. When you buy new ones as they will be harder. Other hardening and/or material.

So I got 2 crown gears part # td310004 and it looks more sturdy but doesn't have the 4 square grooves on the inner part.
|
yes thats the new version of the diff gears. i just got a Durango DEX410R a little while ago and it did not have the 4 square grooves on the inner part. so they must have updated them.
|
Sweet thanks bro! And congratulations on your new DEX!
