cells or lipo....

just a quicky...whats faster in a 12th? cells or s1 lipo? in an R5 with a 10.5

How fast does it go mister ?

Quick response - Cells 4.8v nominal vs 3.7v Lipo - cells win !!

More difficult answer - Cells may be faster down the straight if all speed controller settings are left alone vs Lipo but Lipo will be better in the infield due to lighter weight. Best thing to do though is go Lipo, nearly everone has gone over to it due to reliability and lack of available good cells. Benefits include a lighter car = less kinetic energy if you hit something else so breakages are not as great and less tyre wear with Lipo, again due to reduced weight.

to be fair there is very little difference on a 10.5.. on LiPo you gear the car up to get the speed back that you lose on voltage running at about 60 mpr where on cells you would run at 50 mpr, but remember on cells you are carrying extra weight so the weight costs you the speed advantage. the car on cells will always be punchier out of the turns but the car will soon gain that back when it's got a lick on & the weight factor comes into play.

New racing regulations & most clubs now favour LiPo runners (on no timing advance) so go for LiPo if you can because you may need to change over to one sooner or later if you opt for cells.

Bear in mind that BRCA rules are now a maximum voltage of 3.7V, so if your club runs to them you couldn't use a 4-cell pack anyway (you could build up a 3 cell pack but it would not be competitive).
