Rc gear on a plane!?

Gents,

Im off to paddy piston tomorrow and i have all my stuff packed in the case! Amazing what you can leave behind when you need to.

Im taking my radio (m11x) as hand luggage though as i fear for it being damaged in the case and i have no room LOL

Has anyone had any problems before doing this? i plan on bringing a manual and magazine to help prove its nothing dodgy.

took my rallyx stuff on ryan air to europe few years ago, was expacting the spanish inquesition at the scanner...not a word, had my car and transmitter hand lugage,(as the way I see it is they are the only 2 things you don't want to lose, all else you can beg steal and borrow:lol:) all batterys still fitted, no probs, starter box and tools in lugage heading for the hold, again no probs.

They are quite cleaver with the scanners, they do know exactly what is very wrong when they see it! But I'm not sure what the sharp nosed sniffer dog would have made of the slight wiff of nitro fuel:woot: if he had had a sniff.

on that note, don't try and take any fuel with you!!

Always a good idea to take an RC mag with you in the case, to help explain what everything is. :)

+1!!

If it's anything that resembles a gun like your M11 they will ask questions.

Remove the battery from the transmitter and car if your taking that as hand luggage aswell and you shouldnt have a problem

I did last two The Player races and had to travel by Ryanair - was checked last time on the way to UK at airport in Bratislava - had to take out everything out of my luggage (and my luggage didn't make it to UK in same plane as me in the end ), so that was one out of 4 trips by plane with my stuff that they've checked it. At airport in Stansted they didn't care really.

Lost a flight with Easyjet in Gatwick because of this. Stayed with nothing in Gatwick overnight as the other baggage were on my girlfriend's name.Showed the the badges from the Euros ,they did nothing and if I had not fought my way through ,I would have lost my flight money too.

I brought my DX3 on a plane as my carry-on. I put it in the original box. I had no problems getting it on the plane, however the guy who was running the scanner recognized it as a model car radio.
Another guy I know tried bringing his futaba onto a different flight. The guy was freaked out because he thought it was a gun, and didn't want to let him bring it on the plane until he could prove that it didn't shoot anything. However, he had the radio loose in a bag... no manual/magazine or anything like that. That probably didn't help.
