question for the painters ?
 

Hi quick question whens the best time to lift liquid mask or tape ? iv found when i let the spray dry it leaves a skin so when removing masking it doesnt come off sharp and clean. any help form you pro painters would be much appreciated thanks.

I've found that too so I generally lift it before it dries or just carefully cut around it with my scalpel.

so i guess all you painters are keeping tight lipped then :confused:

umm..... not sure to be honest. like various questions, i just do it and don't think too much about it. have learnt what works sub consciously i guess. :confused:

try to keep yer paint layers light.

liquid masking applied to thinnly can let paint build create problems.

dry yer paint thoroughly, let cool off before removing.

sometimes i find removing the mask quickly helps.


something like this is just a case of doing it and gaining experience.
sod it, i still get it wrong too sometimes so don't sweat it... i think the main difference in more experienced painters is they can rectify a problem rather than just accepting it.

Same as Jon, there is no hard and fast way of doing it right.....

I find that if your using vinyl or window masks paint build up is greater than liquid mask, if you use vinyl a light run down with the scalpal does the trick (a pain it its a long twisty area).

Liquid mask providing you have a sufficently thick coat doesn't build up the paint really so it doesn't tend to be a problem but like jon said make sure you have let the mask cool after drying before removing it. Otherwise its a little rubbery and stretches rather than just peeling.
