Hot LRP X12 Octa Wind 6.5
Do LRP x12 Octa Wind 6.5 motors just run hot? I can't touch mine after a five minute race and I have the gear ratio spot on (19/76 losi 22) with the throttle profile on 1 and boost/timing off (SXX TC ver 2) , I have got the full timing advance end part in.

Running lots of timing advance does make motor run hot but the x12's are known for running very hot but they seem to like it and they can tolerate hotter temperatures than most other motors.

I'd have to disagree i'd run mine oober hot until all the solder run out of it and it stopped dead, it's resoldered and runs fine now but still hot with any gearing but i wondered if it was put together with low melting point solder.

long long time ago I was beefing cause the same story...my X6sq indoor on the beginning geared to 17/78, LRP SPH Comp ESC timing ZERO everithying switched off... and the 6,5 Octa was stil hot. Than I installed cooling, lillbit better but still very warm. Now indoor I run 23/78 and no cooling....the motor is hot but I dont care,, and probably the Octa also:thumbsup: Outdoor I run 8,5 Octa and same story.... HOT:thumbsup: |
Ok, I'm going to try going down one more pinion size and if it still runs hot then hot it will run :cool:

depending on track shape...60-80°C but one I top 110°C of my 6,5 Octa. But do not do that too often...risk of demagnetisation (neodymium), llosing the adhesion between the magnet and shaft....
I say up to 80°C the Octas are safe regarding lifetime. |
Which is the best temp gun for motors, are the nitro ones the same thing?

we thermal tested a 6.5 octa and 5.5 in the same cars with the same esc after 5 mins indoors the octa was running at 116C and the 5.5 was at 123C according to lrp there good for 200c:woot: i can fry spit on mine ever time I race

The X12 are very, very popular in the 10.5 TC classes these days. They are the only motors that can withstand 100+ *C after a 5 minute run without permanent damage.

Easy to repair with high temp solder. If that was a Ballistic that got to 102*C then that would be game over.

I too am looking at these, 7.5 for 2WD and 6.5 for 4WD except in the Nosram flavour
I'm not liking the ORCA motors at present matched with my SP ESCs |
I got my 6.5 Octa Wind at 65-70 degree's after five minutes outside in a Losi 22 (19/76 gearing):thumbsup:
The 100 degree's + all stopped when I took the full timing advance part off the end of the motor, don't need any timing advance with a 6.5 Octa Wind in a Losi 22 :lol: |
