Help - stripping diffs on B44.1
Hi can anyone advise on the best way to setup the slipper in relation to the rear diff. I am going by the manual, running the buggy slowly on astro, loosing off the slipper by 5 turns and -1/4 to -3/8 on the rear diff. But when running at speed after 1-2 batteries the rear diff and pinion gear has stripped.
What am I doing wrong? |
How have you shimmed the rear diff?
I did mine as per the manual and it still stripped. Spend some time getting the shimming right and then you shouldn't have any problems (use the manual as a guide) |

I added a small shim to the pinion on mine as the side to side was fine.
I think they all vary a tiny little bit. |
On every B44 diff I've built the kit spacings haven't been right! I always add enough shims on to the diff to make sure there is practically no sideways movement at all, and always by putting the shims onto the side that pushes the bevel gears together. Close fitting, but it must still be free spinning!
Can be quite a few shims as the gears wear down too. Doing that I've never stripped one ever...and replace the bevel gears occasionally as they do slowly wear down. |
Thanks guys this is really useful advice and makes a lot more sense now. Hopefully I can get it sorted this week.:)
