Well that will teach me .....

After all the statements I have made recently about how strong the FS is on threads about breakages Murphy had to show up for a swift butt kicking didn't he.

I am sad to report the death of an old friend. After three and a half years of solid and loyal service the crown gear on my one-way diff passed on last night.

Seriously though 3.5 years hard service for a crown wheel attached to one-way diff is damn impressive I'd say! Can't think of any other 4wd cars that would have taken that sort of abuse.
Not even 100% sure it wasn't my ownfault either as when I rebuilt the car last time (months ago) I just put the shims back in where they came out from rather than checking.

I might even go crazy and open the rear gearbox and rebuild that too, after all LA200 does come with enough gears to rebuild 2 diffs, 2 pinions and a one-way for less than £6

Roger,

You need to drive harder:D

whats the secret to making the diffs last so long we have four of us driving lazers and we seem to go through a diff and crown gear every week between us:woot:

proper shimming (not necessarily as it says in the manual) and not having the slipper too tight would be my suggestions...

RogerM 12-05-2011 06:08 PM

As Toby says.

Almost all Lazers I get to see have the slipper WAY too tight and the diffs usually also too tight. This car likes things loose .... you will be shocked how loose you can run everything without anything slipping!

As for shimming the gears I've posted several times about how I do it, search for posts about diffs by me and it will pop up I'm sure.

I was really shocked by how durable the drive line of these cars is ... then even more so for having to change a gear now!
