Acetone
Aftenoon guys :)
Just a quickie on acetone.... Now it's going to be the first time I will have used this stuff, only question I've got - Do you fully submerse the rim & tyre or just pour a small amount in a sealable tub and drop the rims in? Any other pointers on this would be appreciated  Cheers, Mike P. |
I usually cut off the tyre, pull out the insert and then just submerge the wheel. Couple of days and done.
|
Try not to use too much, its the fumes that do most of the work, you only need half inch or so in a sealed tub for it work properly, like IanH says cut off the tire and pull out the insert and submerge in the tub for a couple of days and maybe even turn the wheels over in that time, using the stuff you can get from a guy on here it does it in even less time than most acetone I have used over the past, very good stuff, well worth the money, saves you loads on wheels over the years.

I just put the whole wheel in, insert, tyre and all. It all comes off no problem, rinse the inserts in water and they are good to use again.
It's all part of being Rc lazy hehe |
im with dave, just throw the lot in.
seriously though use gloves and protect your eyes and lungs!! john |
I sit my whole wheel, tyre and inserts on a mesh platform above the acetone.
the fumes do the de-gluing,. |
Thanks for the input guys, it's appreciated
Luckily I've a respitator & plenty of leytex gloves with the painting I do, so should be good to go :) Mike P. |
Nah don't bother with all that guff. leave them in there for a couple of days, take the lid off and breathe deeply whilst submerging you hands!!
Thats what I do!:woot: ...am I doing something wrong?:eh?: :D I do think it smells nice though....or is that just a bodyshell painter thing? |
acetone and latex gloves but not a single painted shell in sight:drool:
:wtf: haha can you not just boil the wheels to remove the rubber? or is the misses about? |

Is it recommended to wear gloves when handling acetone? I never have but have noticed the hair on the back of my hand which I dip into the acetone has disappeared! :woot:
|
rather than copy and paste this is the link to the data sheet
http://www.jmloveridge.com/cosh/Acetone.pdf and for those who wear contact lenses acetone will melt the material there made of in seconds, melt it onto your eyeball!! latex gloves are useless, the acetone dissolves them |
just quick one, why are you having to use gloves ? are you not simply pouring a bit into a container ?
I'm missing something here :) |
Never thought of that John! (Being a 'lense wearer myself!)
I use to submerge them completely, but after a while the liquid went brown and horrible. I've since just put a drop in and left the fumes to do the work. It lasts a lot longer then :D |
