Lee Martin takes 4WD 10th BRCA National @ RHR
 

Lee Martin took his second 4WD National victory from two rounds on Sunday 8th May 2011 at the RobinHood Raceway BRCA 10th off road national.


Lee took the opening round of qualifying with his Tamiya TRF511 and other than losing out to Tom Cockerill in the second round - Lee dominated the proceedings to grab overall TQ and win all three legs of the A-final in style.

With two wins from the opening two rounds of the series, Lee Martin is already looking good for another title.

Kyosho springs?

Yep! Kyosho yellow. Harder than a tamiya yellow but softer than a tamiya blue.
And no need to cut a coil off.

Kyosho Dark Yellow or Kyosho Yellow? They look Dark.

Must be #65's - the "other" yellow (kind of an orangey/yellow colour) springs are very soft...

They are yellow rear - I know as I gave them to him - LOL

Hmm, I don't think so, the #65's are a touch harder than Tamiya Blues according to a chart I have here. :confused:

I think they are #60's?

rate for the Kyosho Yellow is 2.06
Sorry I don't know the Tamiya rates to compare

Tamiya yellow is 1.84 according to my chart. Also Tamiya blue is rated as 2.02 but is actually 2.05.

They are both very similar then :confused:

does the rate change if you cut coils off?

It maybe so you dont have to cut the coils off like you do with tamiya springs when running lipos

And it did look like he was running his ride height quite low sunday.

I was told they are between Tamiya yellow and blue, but haven't checked.

In terms of using them, to myself they certainly didn't seem stiffer than the Tamiya blue, from the handling to me they felt mildly stiffer than Tamiya yellow, but compensated by feeling slightly "better" (hard to explain) than the Tamiya yellow, maybe more consistent, which may be due to either the fact the Tamiya spring is cut (which I don't like) or, from memory, I think the Kyosho spring has more coils, maybe that helps the "feel"!?

Haha, maybe, all I know is, when I made the change it had the effect of:

1. Taking 2 specific bumps better on the main straight, it kicked less
2. Slightly better rotation in corners

So a pretty good combo for me, stiffer feel in corners, better on bumps, the problem being that there were other setup changes and of course track conditions can change, so having used them once I can't say for sure they are better.

In general though, now you can add further toe-in to the Tamiya, I've been wanting to go stiffer but add toe to offset, and this is one way of doing it.

Also, I do think an uncut spring will be better/more consistent than a cut one...
