Screwed

Hi all, I've got my crazy lil micro here but i've found I need two of the screws need to be slightly longer - But I cant find what type of screw it is.

It seems to be M3 thread.. but comparing the screws to my D4 - which are also M3 the D4 screws seem slightly wider and have a slightly bigger thread. Which way in the sizes of screw do i go? I assume M4?

bigred5765 23-12-2007 02:04 PM

could well be 2.5mm

Chrislong 23-12-2007 02:22 PM

M3. i.e. 3mm in girth, i think the M stands for Machine rather than Metric - but whichever you call it, its a metric machine screw. So to go smaller you need a smaller number.

Chrislong 23-12-2007 02:23 PM

I don't mean smaller like this "M3" vs "M3"

DCM 23-12-2007 02:56 PM

I think you will find they maybe 2.6, M stands for metric, these ones are Metric Fine.

PaulRotheram 23-12-2007 03:39 PM

ahh.. i dont understand the metric screws.. ive been using american cars for too long haha..

Thanks to mr atomic for the PM, they are actually M2.5.. Now i just need to find some, anyone?

More specific i require
M2.5 x 16mm cap screw x 2
M2.5 x 14mm Cap screw x2

Try Modelfixings if no one has any spare. No minimum order from them.

JCJC 23-12-2007 04:17 PM

But how long, in metric or imperial?

think our old yoke had a 2.5mm screw in the diff, what size screw in the D4 diff?

Bet you could force a B4 screw in there, if we bugger a thread on our B4 I can usually slip a 3mm into it..........:wtf: so theys a little bit smaller

PaulRotheram 23-12-2007 04:23 PM

Thanks for the link Terry, and DCM too! They are unfortuantly closed til lthe 2nd but they are in my favorites for a las resort.

They are metric M2.5 screws.. and they need to be over 16mm (i dont mind dremeling them down abit).

D4 diff screw sizes are 2x25 but have a 'flat' part on the shaft so I cant use it unfortuantly.

I dont really wanna force anything in there as the car is a peice of art so i wanna keep it all nice and shiney haha.

If anyone has something please let me know.

what car they for and were you trying to fit them Paul?

PaulRotheram 24-12-2007 01:07 AM

For the Slimferno, and the centre slipper hold down.

Body Paint 24-12-2007 01:22 AM

Ah, yes, not really much of an option there. You really do need long M2.5 screws. sorry, you probably already worked that out. Longest ones I got are 10mm

PaulRotheram 24-12-2007 01:29 AM
