Gearing questions

BITD I used to race 4WD(Optima Mid Custom),but I'm just getting back into driving again(I am 51!!!).

Ok,I'll admit it,I'm an old git compared to some of you young 'uns:p.

Anyway,I've got myself an old Mardave(ok,I'll admit that too),it was a Meteor but it's now a Cobra.

My local is a mixture of grass, tarmac, hardpacked clay and loose fine gravelly soil/sand over a hard packed clay base.

My Cobe runs a 27turn(yeah,still on Ni-Cads and brushed, old skool or what:thumbsup:)and is on Schumacher mini spikes.
It's also still on 32dp gears for the pinion/spur and hasn't a slipper fitted yet(that's being sorted at work),when it does I'll go upto 48dp,lots smoother and quieter.
I've got a 12tooth pinion fitted and whatever the stock Cobra spur is.
The wheelspin is mental on the loose and hardpacked(the diff.is set up ok),
but on the high grip it's fine.
I know a 27turn has plenty of bottom end torque to punch off the line and out of the turns, but have I geared it too low with a 12tooth pinion?.
Would I be better with a bigger pinion, say a 15,16 or 17 tooth to let the motor's torque do the work but lessen the wheelspin?

With 4WD and a 27 turn,I'd have geared it low to sprint out of the corners,
but 2WD has a lot more power to play with, you're only driving one gearbox for a start.

What do you boys do with your modern Cougars,22's and B4.1's?
Brushless must be a nightmare to get the power down with unless you gear it correctly!!!

Cheers.
