Ring gear design change.

I fitted a new ring gear to a diff today, and I noticed a design change.

The inside surface is now smooth, the 4 rectangular raised blocks are no longer there.

Anyone know why?

Don't know why but I got one like this off the team at the petit race back in January. It's been perfect and is still in the car.
