Silent Generators or Leisure Battery?

Need to source 'something' for summer Cell charging :D

Any tips on what's good or bad when it comes to generators?

What spec leisure batteries are suitable?

Cheers

Neil

ive got a clarke ig1000 inverter generator from machine mart.....awesome value for money (specially if you wait for the vat free days),does exactly what you need it to do and the machine mart quarantees are good if you ever have a problem....at the last regional i did there was 6 chargers running off mine, and the tank off fuel lasted 7 hours!

+1

I had race control and 8+ chargers running off mine at keighley last week and it was only pulling about 250w so you could easily run twice as much.

If clubs don't like lots of gennys then why not have one decent quiet one that everyone taps into and pays £1-2 for the day? I'd do it rather than lug mine round with me.

well said mate.....if i didnt have to carry mine about id be happier! ive gone down the leisure battery route before, being honest my inverter genny is alot lighter than a 110amp leisure battery and i can quarantee a steady 240v all day which i can run my laptop off etc etc safely! if a few off your mates hook upto one genny aswell it keeps noise down and you can split the fuel cost between you.

I'm thinking of using it for Laptop/BBK Timing loop and cell charging. Do you reckon they will be suitable for this?

The inverter generators are very safe mate.....i had a nose about on the caravaning forums before i bought mine.....was boring but informative lol.....they run allsorts off sesnitive equipment off them....laptops,lcd tv's etc etc.....

All id say is before you look into buying one make sure it will be capable off powering what you want to run....i very nearly bought the ig2200 which will do 2200w but after lookng at what i wanted to run i bought the ig1000 which gives out 1000w which for a laptop and a few chargers is plenty....and it was way cheaper!

I did some research on this and the quietest gennie I found was a Honda EX650. Quieter than any other gennie I've seen trackside, I looked at eu10i, kipor, yamaha and more.

I got mine off ebay for £100 and spent another £150 fixing it. Bargain, runs like a dream, runs all day on a couple of litres of fuel.

....so..... suitcase 'silent' gennie it is... now, where to buy from?

Are these all mail order (ebay) etc or can they be brought over the counter (ahem!).

Any pointers?

That Clarke one is a bargain at under £300, especially for an inverter one. I'd go for it!

Assume this is a different beast then?

That is a 2 stroke gennie. I had one that was a very similar design, it didn't last very long and was as noisy as hell. Don't waste you're money.

Get a four stroke and save yourself the hassle.

Already collect the good one from machine mart

I've not had chance to use it yet, but really happy with the purchase.
