Burning smell from LiFe pack

I wonder if anyone can help.

I got 2x sets of MuchMore LiFe packs off a very nice chap on this forum (great condiiton and a bargain in my eyes).

Anyways, I have been tinkering with my B44 (I'm a newbie for my sins), and have all the motor/ESC put in. So there I am playing around with 'how I am going to fit all that wiring under the body' and I thought I would plug in the LiFe packs to check everything fits.

Plugged one half of the saddle pack in, everything fine - plugged the other half via the 'connector' cables and got a spark from the pack, now I have a slight burnt smell from that pack. Basically I think I have knackered it, what a prat I am :(

Does this mean the pack is dead, or will it be OK? Any help would be fab.

Cheers, Mark

Did you make sure you didn't plug it up the wrong way round?

Most speedos now have large capacitors which draw a good deal of power while charging so the spark when you plug it in is quite normal. Might be a case of you being too careful which is not a bad thing.

Hook the LiFe pack up to a charger and check whethter it will take charge and behaves normally. It should be ok really.

Hi Mark,

Have dropped you another pm, was it as you plugged the 4th wire in?

Marks explained how it was connected in a pm to me guys, think what's happened is as if the link wire has been connected between +ve and -ve of the same cell (think the other cell has not been shorted), might it survive that?

I think I have it sorted now, just need to check the battery when charging.

What I had done was connect both sets of main leads to one pack, rather than one red to one pack and on black to the other pack, then use the jumper cable between the two packs therefore creating them in a series.

Well you live and learn with these things and at least the house didn't burn down - so there is a plus point :)

Cheers, Mark
