Size of track (indoor)

Hi,

What size tracks are people using indoors? Obviously the bigger the better but what would you say the minimum would be.

Thanks

Matt

From memory Taplow on Carpet is about 20m long and 18m wide.

Bisley is about 30m long and 10m wide.

I'm assuming this is for 10th off-road?

I've raced at a fair few indoor venues over the years. I think you can lay a usable track in something as small as 16m x 8m (the old Oxclose venue for example). That gives you the four 2-metre wide lanes you need to lay any kind of corner and meet up at the end of the lap, it also gives a usable straight. It can get a bit congested though, you can easily do 8-second laps on a layout that size.

Every 2m lanes width or length you can add from that just gets better and better. Something like 24m x 12m feels like a really good track with a lot of variety, roughly what Caldicot run on.

Ribble Valley at Leyland run on 30mts x 10mts if we can get over the storage problems we may put another roll of carpet down, that will give us 30mts x 12mts.
The bigger the better but remember the carpet and track have to be put down every night!!

Cheers

Peter
