Shock Pistons
On the TRF Racing website under the 201 and 511 'to complete the kit' section there are 3 different types of shock pistons.
1.3, 1.4 and blank. Every setup i have seen have always used 1.3 and 1.4 mm pistons. Are the blank ones only used to drill custom size holes in place of the other 2 or is there some other obscure reason why people use / buy them? After all they are listed in the section to complete the kit and it kind of suggests you need them...:confused::confused: |
Just as an option, ready to be drilled 2 hole, 3 hole whatever might suit the track.

Have to agree Mike Pimlott, but you donīt need them to complete the kit, they should be an option not a necessary part to complete the kit. The 511 includes thw "W" parts which include more than one option. They are molded, not machined as the option ones. They are a bit more precise i guess but at the same time i doubt that you will notice a difference as these dampers are smooth either way.

Thanks guys,
So do people use 3 and 4 hole pistons then as opposed to the 2 hole ones? Why? And if so what size? Is there some fancy Pie R squared calculation as 2 x 1.4 mm holes will give more restriction than 4 x 0.7 mm holes. wont they....? |
I've been looking at the 1.3 and 1.4 ghea pistons, but not sure if they are worth it on the 511.

I currently use 2x1.3mm front and 2x1.4mm rear.
I drilled blank ones 3 hole 1.3 and 1.4mm but i didnt like it. I think the tamiya springs are very soft anyway and 3 hole piston didnt work for me. Might try it again on real bumpy tracks but with blue rear springs and black fronts |

and 4 1.3 mm holes with 50 weight oil, what would be the difference? Alot I bet but do people really use the blank pistons for extra holes? Or do they stick to 2 holes and just drill them to 1.1mm or 1.5mm etc???? |
i use the 1.3 2 hole with blue springs and 30/35w oils works fine for me

http://users.telenet.be/elvo/ I drilled them to 3 hole because i wanted less pack on a bumpy track, this made the shock react quicker. It worked on the bumpy section but rolled too much in corners, wasnt quicker! |

Has anybody else used more than 2 holes and did they drill smaller, or has anyone just tried using 2 holes and drilling smaller or bigger ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????? |
Out of interest, what pistons fit the Tamiya dampers? Cheers.
