D4 review - Extended version!

Paul Rotheram has taken up the Hot Bodies D4 oople.com review car and will be racing the car, getting to grips with it and writing his experiences, good & bad.
The last two times out he's been in the A final with the car - and he's still getting used to it.

I'm sure there's plenty more stuff we can add to the D4 'area' in coming weeks / months, including mini reviews, interviews and setups.

Thanks again to Paul for his help!

We've just moved back to the D4 after running the Durango and the Cat.

I'd forgot how good this car is. and at the last national had my best national result ever with a 4/5 year old car!

As it is, it is a very good car. We've made a couple of simple mods to the top deck etc. but otherwise its basic.
There are a few improvement to come but we'll have to wait to get them on the cars. :)

Well worth the change. :)

I'm always looking for more steering. Seems to lack a little personally. Even when doing a U turn, the turning circle is wider than my cat, tamiya, and every other car I've had. Not by much but it's noticeable. I have pretty much the standard setup, but have 2mm under the front link on the caster block.

I will try a 2.5 rear block instead of the standard 3.0 to see if it helps steering.

Its not end points is it?
because ours have plenty of turning circle and more than enough front end on track.
I have Dremelled out all of the cross braces on the top decks though. So its basically four strips of carbon for top decks, which helps a little at pace.

no epa problems, the turning circle is slightly larger, not much however as I'm nit picking here. I have also dremelled the front gearbox and the ballcups where they touch at full throw

have you done any other mods to yours? would be great if you could share  and have you found a place in the UK that still gets D4 spares in? im going to have to resort to importing from USA soon

Nope thats all I've done. i've added aroun 62g of brass in between the lipo's. other than that, its pretty standard.

Hpi do have a stock of parts so it may be worth getting in touch with them to find out which of their stockists is best to order from.

Other than that, put something in the wanted section on here. There's lots of people with old D4's knocking around in the house. :)
