Drilling out hexes

I have some AE front hexes I wish to try with Rulux wheels on a DB01R. Can someone tell me how I should go about drilling them out to 5mm? I also need to drill out the pin hole. It seems quite a hard alloy and I only have a hand drill... I don't think it can make a central hole so the wheels won't run true. Can anyone do this for me on a lathe or drill press? I'll reimburse you for your time and postage. Thanks.

The hex is the same size on the tamiya but the tamiya one is a little shallower. I just use a washer (6mm I think) and its a perfect fit in the rim and spaces the wheel out just enough so it doesn't catch :).

I used a washer to fit them to my 22 front.. Works well

Thanks, I already have 0.4mm of shims behind the hex and 0.3mm in front (next to the wheel) but I'm not convinced it won't bind. I don't want to strip another hex and have to reglue the tyres etc :(

Shall I just give it another go and hope for the best?

btw did you mean 6mm internal diameter? It's 5mm for the DB01 universals.

I think the washers I use are 6mm but the outside diamiter is exactly the same as the hex so its perfect fit inside and the thickness is spot on. I'll post a pic of what I mean :).

Cool... do you mean ones like the Tamiya 53726 6mm shim set?

Hi MRD, do you have a part number for those?

Thanks.
