Just a thought is it worth going to the docks a asking?

HUNTER.P 20-03-2011 02:10 PM

i dunno what scale you are racing but if climbing ropes are thick enough, ask round climbling clubs/shops

I know for a fact ropes have an expiry date whether or not they have been used or not and its illegal to sell them and as far as i know they get chucked out

Thargor 20-03-2011 02:17 PM

sports centre's sometimes have climbing rope....

battery powerd 1/10 buggys.

also go to local oil distributors, tanker hose is good alternative to rope and they have to change them frequently and dispose of old ones

brian s 20-03-2011 08:39 PM

ask at your local fire service depot if they have any hose available for disposal and fill with gravel.

+1 for the fire hose. Free, fill up (about 70% full allows for flexability) and seal the ends (bit of wood and a couple of nuts and bolts), job done.

A few years ago I got some rope free from the dockyard from a tug boat company. They too have to change their ropes often. It was the chatham dockyard, dont remember which company though. But there must be a few companies around.

Or left over sharp sand I have in my garage ;)...

Easier to seal the ends up with glue/Silicon or melting :D

Hmm, DC admitting going down the docks and asking sailors for a favour :woot::p

+1 for the gravel and hose solution - sand weighs far too much if you have to move it on a regular basis. We just fold the end over and duck tape it to stop the gravel coming back out.

Your just jealous I didn't ask you:p

I think rope is a far better option anyways:D

I did the hose thing from the fire brigade years ago at Hampshire Racing Centre and we did fill with sand. Very heavy to be moving around and can still move. We folded the ens and nut and boltedit together. Also the hose is normally red and takes a hell of a lot of white paint and then of course it goes all stiff and horrible.
Thick rope from the docks sounds the trick and that would be my way of thinking after the experience of the hoses.
Hope we have helped a little.

And in addition, if the competitors are having a bad day then at least have something to try and hang themselves with at the end of the day !!! LOL

peetbee 22-03-2011 09:14 AM

I feel we are drifting off topic!

& No, my suit is leather not rubber, far better protection against abrasion.
