Help me!

I have recently installed a novak havoc bruchless system into my car, but there has been a few problems. Once installed after about ten minutes of steady running it, the plastic spur gear attached to the motor has worn down. The gear had no wearings before so must be the motor. This is unbelievable. Is there a metal hop up as i dont want to be changing the gear every ten minutes! help please write back asaphttp://forum.racing-cars.com/smileys/smiley1.gif

no motor will kill a spur only 2-3 things will do that, bad meshing between spur and pinion most likely case to loose, and or dirt getting into ether of them

Have you checked the bearings that support the slipper shaft, you could have one missing or one that has failed.

What model is it?

James.

What do you mean attached to the motor?

savagejac 19-03-2011 09:24 PM

The model is a havoc, novak 8.5 t motor

savagejac 19-03-2011 09:26 PM

I dont think the bearing will be a problem considering that it is brand new and i have never used it before until now.

and i mean the spur gear the one which is directly touching the spur gear on the motor

Shaun 'TheSheep' Atkinson 19-03-2011 09:33 PM

Just because it is brand new doesn't mean you can't get a dodgy bearing in the kit, it does happen. Have you checked that the mesh between the spur gear and the pinion isn't too tight? Also have you used the correct pitch pinion for the spur gear?

Like Bigred said aswell, is there any dirt getting into the gears?

savagejac 19-03-2011 09:37 PM

its a schumacher cat sx 2 pro
and ok fair enough
also it should have been fine as i took it to a shop so that i could get it done properly and i had a losi motor and that was dosgy so he got the credit back for that and fitted me this one. He is a dealer so i persume that he will know what he is doing

AfroP 20-03-2011 01:11 PM

just because he is a dealer doesn't mean he knows your car or how best to fit things.

what surface are you running on? is it a heavy dirt environment where something could have got in between the gears?
What motor wear you running before?

savagejac 20-03-2011 03:07 PM

I was running a losi brushless system ( the cheep one £130 ) he fitted also. Last night when I did it it was road only so I dont see that any much could have affected it

5 Attachment(s)
this is what it looked like this is what its like now (look at attachments) also this is my car

bigred5765 20-03-2011 04:10 PM

hard to say really but pinion is off centre, and on the spur every other tooth is missing so looks to me like there has been a stone and something that has got in to the pinion,

bigred5765 20-03-2011 04:12 PM

and just noticed on pic two that the spur gear is off centre you can see more of the slipper pad on one side than the other

savagejac 20-03-2011 04:17 PM

What do I need to do with it then?

bigred5765 20-03-2011 04:31 PM

replace spur gear and mesh them together properly, and make sure pinion as no foreign objects in between the teeth, and check for play in gearbox/ lay shaft bearings,

savagejac 20-03-2011 04:34 PM

"check for play in gearbox/ lay shaft bearings, what do you mean sorry i am a obviously new to this

bigred5765 20-03-2011 04:40 PM

grab hold of the lay shaft with your fingers and see if you can move it up down side to side, there should be no sings of movement or play at all,get hold of someone at your local club that has run one for a while and ask them to show you

savagejac 20-03-2011 04:46 PM

if you mean the pin comming out of the motor there is no movment it is solid appart from obviously it can spin .

bigred5765 20-03-2011 04:50 PM

you need to look through the manual, the motor has nothing to do with the gearbox, the layshaft is what the big black cog is on

savagejac 20-03-2011 04:54 PM

oh my bad i know what you mean, that i had a few problems whith when i built it. it wabbles a little but not too much.
