The Car, What to buy? 1:10 electric 4wd

I'm probably going to get the bug again at Taplow tomorrow night, and I'm pretty sure that I'll but a Schumacher SX3 as I have alway raced Schumachers' but just wondered if there is anything else I should seriously consider? But I think I may start a political poo fight having read the thread about the SX3. I'll go put my wellies on and wait for the poo to start flying.

It would be good to know what your running and what is good about it, as well as opinions on the SX3? I have a good budget for the kit so what do you think?

I run schumacher myself, so you seem to know Schumacher pretty well already, love the cars, so balanced and easy to drive :)

Even though you have ran Schumachers before in the past, I would have a look at the B44.1 if I was you, looks fantastic on track

If your wanting to buy a car now then the sx3 is out the question....

I can hang on till the middle of april as I think there is a few hundred £££ to spend on kit this month and I'll buy the car mid april as I believe that's when it is available. B44.1 is team associated right? I've never heard of them till this week. Another car back in the day was a Predator it had a carbon drive shaft, but I can't remember who made it.

Spoke to MK Racing today and they said middle of april:lol:If they are telling the truth. What are the Durango things like they look incredibly well made!

I say get a Tamiya 511.
It's a great car:thumbsup:

I personally couldn't get on with the Durango :bored: Strong as hell!! But I found it very aggressive...

I will always recomend the ZX5-FS as the easiest car to live with. It's tougher than old boots that have been left in the sun, hardly ever needs any love and is super easy to drive once you have it to your liking. If you get the FS2 there is nothing to add, build, race, enjoy!

The Chef 17-03-2011 08:31 PM

This was my first car. I've still got it at mums too!! http://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?product_id=34489

I may have to dig it out and give it a freshen up!:woot:

Well you have a couple of options IMO...
The most popular cars at club level seem to be Team Associated B44's and Schumacher Cat SX2's, mainly as most people run them, and parts are available from a number of UK retailers.

You do have some other options as well, but there are downsides to them in my opinion.

Three Japanese cars: Tamiya 511x (belt) or 502x (shaft), and the Kyosho as mentioned by roger.
All these cars are very well made, but they are dearer to buy, and parts are not quite as readily available in the UK, but the Kyosho seems to be gaining popularity, which is good. The Kyosho uses a better designed and more reliable, but less popular wheel fitting (12mm hex). For my next 4wd, i might even consider the Kyosho, as it seems to improve upon my niggles with the B44 (like adjusting the inner ballstud height - annoying, as it means taking the front top deck off to change easily).

Yokomo b-max (whilst good value in the cheaper models) seems a bit less popular, not too sure why, but it hasnt caught on as much as I expected, even after winning a National.

The durango is good value in the 410R version, but uses fluid filled gear diffs, and opinions are mixed as to how easy it is to drive, especially if you race other cars with conventional ball diffs.

The other option is to wait a little, and see if Losi produce a new 4wd buggy, alongside the recently released 22 2wd buggy.

Personally I run a B44, which I bought cheap 2nd hand.

Do you have a link for the tamiya?

Kyosho have all ways been good even when I was racing years ago.

Not thinking about the Durango but possibly consider a Losi even though as yet I know nothing about them.

Who made the Predator? Way back when?

/tobys 17-03-2011 09:04 PM

predator was tenth technology - now it's available from team xtreme

They always seemed to perform well. Any opinions on those?

The new Predator X11s from Team Xtreme are mean't to be much better than Preds of the 90s - the diff gears no longer pack in after 1 meeting and the chassis is more difficult to snap. Only problem is the price and not that many people race them (but they still have exclusivity on their side!).

Quite a few people brought B44.1s to West Bridgford on sunday and they looked ace

RogerM 18-03-2011 08:03 AM

Spares are no issue with the Kyosho cars, plenty of the big shops carry good stocks and my experience is that if the shop (JE Spares in my case) haven't got it Kyosho UK can get it to me for the weekend!

Also, when you have a car that doesn't break or wear out quickly are spares the best way to judge it? :)

GRIFF55 18-03-2011 09:00 AM

I have been racing the tamiyas for a while and they are amazing cars but parts were only available from hong kong etc (not anymore as j t models carry lots of stock) google them or look on here for cars and stock etc.
i have recently changed to the b44.1 and am very impressed with the quality and how smooth a car it is to drive. Also, apart from an £8-10 ballast weight, it is ready to go out of the box:thumbsup: (spares are always in stock at mk too)

hope this helps
