Cougar SV Alloy Gear Box
 

Afternoon people.

What are your opinions of the alloy gear box for the cougar sv??? I am coming to the conclusion that even the new moulded version is a pile poo and am wondering if it worth investing in the version.

Your views and opinions will be greater appreciated.

to be honest Matty has been running the old plastic case for over 12 months never had a problem,what seems to be the problem with yours?
and the alloy one better yeah may be , depends on what your problem is,its machined after all so should be better ,12-13 grams heaver,

I bought it some weeks ago and love it. The two parts are really nice machined pieces with an excellent fit. The main advantage is probably that it is super clean to mount, no need to seal or re-adjust the gearbox housing and easy to demount when rebuilding diff etc. The plastic ones in mine had always gaps or bad fit. I recommend it if you want to spend the money, but it is not absolutely necessary...

I just don't think that mine aligns up very well. Sounds like a bag of nails, so is it meant sound like that?? I've run a XXX, XXXT, XXX4, B4 and B44 as well as touring cars over ten years and have never come across a such a poorly manufactured gear case. So its not a case that I'm new to this I've got a couple of years behind me. In fact I think I think my Fireblade Evo sounded sweety that my Cougar SV.

shouldnt sound like that no matter how bad its aligned we had one of the first team batch cars and the gear box was'nt aligned very good at all, but it still sounded sweet and run true,

Hi guys!
I have a second batch plastic gear case (with the 4 screws) and it fits well, nothing wrong when i checked the inside after 30 packs in outdoor.

The alloy one doesn't seem essential but is definitely beautiful and so bling!

you guys mentioned that the alloy case is heavier so would you recommend putting the shocks on the standard position or in the rear ?

I run mine std, most others seem to do the same. (indoor)

its not a massive difference in weight to the plastic one not that you will notice anyway so there shouldnt be any need to move the shocks to the rear apart from if you get to a really bumpy track then i might consider moving them to the back hope this helps :thumbsup:
