Thunder Tiger
What do people think?
I read a review of the Phoenix buggy in RRCI and they thought it was OK, now I see the 4WD drive version the Sparrowhawk is out and comes with a load of features, but is it worth it? Or is a Kyosho Z-5 better? Cheers, Mark |
i think my phoenix is a pretty good car, its got the stock brushless system and it works great for racing, it will easily keep up with or even outrun a brushless b4 down the straight (i cant comment on the corners as i had the wrong tyres on the front) i was managing to keep up with 1:1 scale cars doing 40mph on loose dirt and gravel, i dont think its too bad.

Well I've got the Phoenix bx2 and I think it's ace as for performance it's as good as any car there but it just needs a decent driver:) lol. Only thing I found was the kit provided in mine was fairly basic but ok. Started with the hop up parts such as ezwing brushless motor and esc, new savox servo, trailed lipos and next on my list as far better than cells you just have to keep an eye out on eBay. There around £20-£30 each for a fairly good one from hong kong. Also the Phoenix is a copy of the old rc10 team associated buggy and all the parts fit perfectly so it ain't to bad for spares. I was lucky enough to of bought a whole buggy(rc10 b2) for £20.
Overall I'd recommend this buggy and only thing I'd change is the shocks but team associated ones fit straight on no problem. |
By the sound of the review I read and the comments from you guys, the Phoenix is pretty sorted, I didn't know the link with Associated - would that mean the 4wd sparrowhawk will share parts with the B44?
Cheers, mark |
I'm not sure for the sparrowhawk but I'm sure some parts will fit. I'm looking for a 4wd eventually. And the sparrowhawk for me looks good. Are you looking for new or pre owned as if pre owned I'd recommend eBay or going down to your local race track as someones always selling something but they mostly use Schumacher, team associated, Durango and I guess the new losi will be coming very popular in the next few months. But it pays to be different sometimes. I like the fact I'm the only one with a thunder tiger at the clubs I go to as it's more fun and you feel like you've beaten some of the races in you own way, instead of how everyone else is setup. I see it as part of the fun :) but that's just me.

I was thinking of a new sparrowhawk because it has only just come out (I think). I know what you mean about being different and surprising everyone :) plus my budget doesn't stretch to a new B44 or a 4wd Schumacher.

Well my buggys been good fun and pretty reliable so far. I've only broken a front wishbone because I went head on with someone and lost at racing. If your budget like mine then I would recommend the thunder tigers as I'm happy with mine but if you don't mind second hand there's always cars for sale on here in the for sale ads, eBay (there's 2 b4's on there now for £65) or visit a club close to you. Have fun with what ever you buy:)
