TRF GTO build thread.
 

If you have bought a Atomic Carbon kit, then this will be old news but for those thinking about it, then i thought it might be nice too have a build thread for one, if there are any mistakes, and there will be then i would ask for a little patience as i have never done one before.

So here we go, firstly this is what you get and what you will need.

mmmm Carbon fibre loveliness. right then as you can see i already had the back end off, i couldnt wait and started already, so i think a good place too start was the gearbox as this is probably going too be the trickiest part of the build, so it was a simple matter of finding the gearbox parts and stripping the old one out and putting the new one together.

as you can see it comes with 2 idler shafts and because of the midmount swap you will need another idler gear and bearings. I used 2 RW201I acetal idler gears, one too replace the existing one and one for the new space, you can also see the 2 new idler shafts i found these a tight fit but with a bit of preperation they fitted perfectly.

what i will say is that i shimed the layshaft out a little, i used 2 0.2 shims which pushed it out just enough too stop it rubbing on the new lightweight backplate i got, see how i got that in there, nice eh. :).

so there it is gearbox completed. now you can put on the backplate with the spacers, and put it onto the chassis.

to be honest, its all fairly simple from here, if you have done any maintenance too your TRF then its pretty much plain sailing, any problems i have come across i will just explain them.
The front end is quite a simple affair, take the old one off put the 3 new brass posts in and reassemble on the chassis, you will have too excuse the rather blurry pic for this one but by this time i was getting a little tired.

for me, next it was screw the servo down as it was just resting in place and put the chassis brace on, i had a bit of a result with mine and managed too get a alloy one, so it will look all bling. but there is nothing wrong with the plastic one and too be honest the chassis is so stiff i dont think it will make much of a difference, i did try and bend the chassis on its own and trust me on this it is stiff.

here you can see the back end with the beautifully made camber link spacers in place, i put another couple of washers behind them just too push them out a little further. It just helps too keep the camber links a little further away from the springs.

and here is the front of the car semi complete, i do need too sort out the front camber links, but i will do that tomorrow, and crack on with the lipo carriers and the other bits and bobs.
