Is this generator any good?

Thinking of getting a generator for the nationals this year and wondered if this would be any good?

Those type are bleedin noisy...

And not very good quality, I've known them to roast whatever's plugged into them...

Stick to Honda, Yamaha, Kipor, SDMO suitcase type and you won't go far wrong.

Spend the extra and get a Kipor, the yellow ones that most have, no need for mixing oil as it just runs off unleaded fuel.

What are you going to power off it? if your going to use electrical things like computers I think the sine wave ones are better.

I got mine from http://www.dpgenerators.co.uk/price_...sts/kipor.html

I would steer clear of the noisy 2 strokes!

and fit a surge protector outlet

Ive got one and to be honest its a good little genny. They used to be about £60 but now theyre silly money at £100.

I ran mine for most of last year and the year before and Ive only had two problems. One is that the flywheel spun and I had to put a new key on the shaft, the other is the starter claw which broke, but this was due to trying to start it when it spun the flywheel.

Power wise we had it powering an ENTIRE Keighley meeting with around 15 drivers and all of race control and it didn't miss a beat.

I got a new £280 suitcase 4stroke genny at the end of last year with all the fancy sine wave stuff and to be honest Its not much, if any quieter and Ive noticed no difference in power delivery. Infact the new genny cuts off when it gets near to the limit where the old one just chugged on.

In regards to voltage they're not super consistant when not under alot of load but I set mine to give between 210v and 240v and as most things that run from a transformer take between 110 and 240v it was never a problem.

Theyre not perfect and at £100 its too much money but if you're on a budget and can get one for £40/50 then they'll do the job and do it well. If you have the cash then get a suitcase genny. The choice is yours :)

we ran one for two years without hitch, but defo invest in a surge protector,if u value your stuff,PS as stated they are bloody noisy and smelly,

I ran one of those generators for 3 years - without a problem, used to get about 11 hours out of a tank. Powered the electrics in the motorhome and all my chargeing at many a race meeting, only problem was the regulator blew and it was easier to get another generator than try to find the right part.

i have a similar one to this, but as said previously i picked it up for around £50-60
had it for around 3 years with not one issue. Isn't too noisy once you lean it out a little. And you can always tuck it around the other side of the car etc.

we have ran 2-3 chargers, laptops, phone chargers etc all from it
pretty economical too

I had one. Was pretty good till I drove over it.
Wasn't very noisey after that...
