Ansmann Blizzard Breakages

Hi All,

Before I start I know nothing about Ansmann origins or the product so please forgive me.

A young lad and Dad have just brought one of there cars to race indoors.

First meeting with it last night and it had to following breakages.

2 laps of practice - minor bump - front shock rod snapped
1st heat - landed from a small jump - rear shock rod snapped
Minor bump on the front - shock mount snapped

Forgive me but this seems complete crazy to get these type of breakages on a flat smooth track with one jump (at slow speed, remember this is a novice driver on a small track).

I understand its not a brand like Associated or Schumacher etc but surely it still has to with stand a reasonable amount of throwing it around a track?.

I've told them to send the whole thing back for a refund as not suitable for the job and get a second hand 'brand up' car.

Any thoughts from Ansmann owners?

No breakages on mine, the kit shocks are not the best but with a rtr you dont expect thm to be,no issues with any other parts,i have the diffs shimmed tight which is a must, mine has a 6.5 brushless system in and driven on rough tracks with heavy landing jumps,my advise would be change the shock shafts or if you can find a 2nd hand set of shocks, any other breaks happen,im yet to find a brand of car that doesn't break at some point with a crash or bad landing

I broke a shock shaft on mine, but it was flat out into a car that was stuck on a pipe so I will let it off. I lost count of how many B44 factory team front shafts myself and my friends went through when we were running them, until we switched to the standard b4 ones.

My friend chris is running an x-pro4 and he has done a few shock shafts but he does have a tendancy to clip corners at quite high speeds, he is getting betetr at driving but he only really started racing about a year ago and to eb fair his x4 has stood up to quite a bit of punishment since he got it. If you compare the race completion to breakage ratio on the xxx-cr that he used to race it has definatly done a lot better than the losi.

I think it was just an unfortunate set of breakages this beginner has had with his car. At least with the ansmann it is quite cheap to repair when it does get broken.

I reckon the blizzard is a lot stronger out of the box compared to a Kyosho Lazer ZX-5 RTR though.

I think the word "clip" is an understatement there Rob!. The thing about the Blizzard (and many other 4wds) is that the shocks are mounted on the front of the wishbones - they have to be otherwise there is no room for the driveshafts. As a result these often take the full impact of a collision, whether fast or slow. I suppose you could fit a bumper on the front (if you look at the pictures section of this forum there is a Madrat with one fitted).

When I had my Losi, the shocks screwed into the centre of the wishbone so they had more protection and as a result these were never broken - but went through countless wishbones!

At the end of the day, every car has it's weak spots. On the X4/Blizzard it is the shock shafts however the rest of the car is pretty tough:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I did have an accident last sunday whereby my servo died and I ploughed head-on into the track side at 40+ mph. The only damage done was a cracked transmission case. Unfortunately I had cracked another trasmission case 2 weeks early due to a head on collision with a car going the wrong way! - these parts cost £8 to replace each time. As a result I have now made a metal plate to go under the car protecting the cases from any further damage. It took me a while to make and I missed 3 rounds of qualifying, but did manage 6th in the A final with no breakages. Lots of people seem to use these on their Madrats

I broke a shock shaft last Tuesday night on my X4pro,also the front plastic hinge pin brace.I,ll be fitting the upgrade braces f+r tomorrow to strenghten things up.
I have also stripped a screw thread from the top of the front upper gearbox casing (the furthest forward screw) but i will fix that with a liitle mod of my own.
Apart from that the car is good .....just wish i could drive it better :)
