New Madrat or used B4?

Thinking of having a dabble with off road, race touring cars at the moment, and not sure which way to go. I do want a 2wd for easy maintence etc, will probably run in indoors and out. I see the Madrat is very similar to the B4, is it just a cheap copy or a capable club racer (wont be do any nationals or the like) Look forward to your comments.

a used b4 all day long mate they are the best 1/10th buggy out there i use to race 1 at my local club

I wouldn't go as far as to say the B4 is the best off road car out there, but it's the one to go for out of those two, seen too many Mat Rats lose the front end off of the car to recomend one.

Plus you can always turn a B4 into a X6 when you feel like it.

Madrat is a good car... got basic £50 plastic one 2 weeks ago to get back into 2WD whilst i'm waiting for a Losi 22,

Would say the Madrat is a copy of a Losi XXX rather than the Associated, a XXX bodyshell fits straight on

Never been a fan of Associated cars but they are obviously very good so wouldn't knock them.

The Madrat is great, even with stock plastic shocks, i've put a set of bearings in and its as fast as the others in our club running similar spec motors etc, definitely competitive with the Associated cars

Spares are dirt cheap too, haven't broke it yet and had a few high speed grip rolls with no damage... the rear 'T' Gearbox plate looks very weak but there is a carbon fibre replacement available if it breaks.

Might be worth waiting for the Mad Monkey which is the mid motor version and will hopefully be as cheap, i'll definitely have one to try for club racing/spare car

what do others have at the local club? Thats a good starting point for setup tips and parts if you break at the track.
I have had a madrat which I sold when I got a Xpro.. upgraded madrat and i really like it.
I also have a losi xxxcr with not a lot of running so can't tell you the difference.
Depends also on what the used B4 goes for. RTR or kit etc

i have had a few b4s in my time and a t4 got a macnum basicly with ansmann you get what you pay for.wasnt impressed with it threads pulling everywhere you have to upgrade loads of parts to alloy to get it stronger which sets you backand still not as strong as a b4 then.

my money would go the b4 way

There is an ansmann Xpro, couple of X-6's and around 10 B4/B4.1's

Am all over them with a £50 chassis kit and its upset a fair few of the drivers that spend megabucks on club racing.

As with most r/c cars they only break when you crash them!

Thanks for replys, mixture of cars at the club really but the B4 does seam the most popular. Dont want to spend too much as I may not like it anyway.

Same old thing unfortunately, people will tell you to get what they have...

Ive had the majority of the modern cars, B4, xxxcr, X6, cougar, cr2 and ive had a mad rat which ive now converted to the mid motor car, it's very capable, not as many tuning options as the others but still, its half the price!

For the money the madrat is bob on... Just get a set of bearings and you'll be fine... £55 is a bargain, then if you dont like it no worries, its not cost you a fortune... A second hand b4 at £55 could need another £50 spending on it!

Jsut my thoughts!
