Hi all, any one have any suggestions for a good soldering iron ??

Weller TCP12V 12v soldering iron. Cant fault mine.

SPEC racing, used to be wasp

Has set the standard for years now

weller or antex appear to be robust

portasol do an excellent gas iron that you just fill with ordinary lighter fluid,its comes with a few different tips and accessories,ive had one for 10 years is perfect for model cars and does an excellent soldering job and gets very hot.

i'll second that,

i have a portasol that has been going strong for about 15 years now and is amazing,

the temperature is adjustable and is even hot enough to solder battery connectors to make your own nimh packs up...

i would highly recommend the portasol one, even guys at our track have borrowed mine and commented on the heat it produces and the speed at which its ready to use....

I've got a Iroda gas one from Maplin http://www.maplin.co.uk/solderpro-50...iron-kit-34956

It's great, hot, fast, compact. The tips don't last too long, but are only a few quid.

As for electric, I wish I could afford a Weller...

Yep, very good

Def a SPEC racing one, I believe the Portasol are good but if you have money to burn a good Weller TCP temperature controlled one with a nice chunky tip

i use a Dremel Dura Tip, gives about 30mins on a fill of gas. and it uses lighter re-fills. Really good quality bit of kit.
