This could see the end of his F1 career with that amount of damage to his arm.

Just woke to see this, terrible news, and one of my favorite drivers, he will be missed this season for sure.
Thing is, what were Renault thinking allowing him to compete, so close to the start of the season?
I thought most contracts, frowned on this type of activity anyway, i recall Kimi always in the hot water with Ron for his Motocross shennanigins?

The best thing Renault could do now is buy out Hulkenbergs contract. Senna and the other test driver aren't up to it as it looks like being a great car.

Dazzler 07-02-2011 07:55 AM

not good......

Seems to be worse than they first let on....

It doesnt look good, the hand could be a big problem, he may not get full function back in it yet....this is awful, for such a "still" rising star.

Both test drivers arent up to it, i agree, its terrible for Kubica, but also, a big problem for Renault, i think they could have been on the up this season?

Hulkenberg, there is a thought.

With the new regs and having to do more and more stuff with your hands now I can't see him coming back. He was up there in that elite group (in what is a bumper period for good drivers) and doing it in a not so good car. Very few people have done that.

telboy 07-02-2011 03:47 PM

Its reported that he is moving his fingers after the operation. So thats a good sign.

Although not an Ideal situation having senna in the car, how eerie would it be to have the senna helmet colours in a black and gold lotus car?

I think it would be a bit of an anticlimax with the Senna colours. Unless he proves most people wrong. Personally I think this could be the making of Petrov. This might be just what he needs to push on, he's a good racer just needs more nouse.

Scary! no wonder it took an hour to get him out.
How the hell did that not kill him?

Dash bars strong enough the mount the column and the fact that the seating position is nearly in the back seat probably saved his life.

Bagman 07-02-2011 04:27 PM

Blimey, looks like he almost went off a drop too.

HOLY SH**!!!!
Didn't realise the armco went straight though the whole car!:o

Damn lucky boy!!

So he basically went into the end of the armco, spun, and pretty much wrapped the car in the barrier!

mikerobinson83 08-02-2011 12:24 AM

Mr Kubica please can you pick 6 numbers between 1 and 49 for me!

joking aside, he is a very lucky man and i for one hope he makes a quick recovery, he was a good driver who had potential to do very well.

sldmodels 08-02-2011 12:59 AM

And you know what, if he could have got out the car and walked away from it, he would have done and not thought anymore of it, yet me, you and every other normal person would be cacking ourselves to even look at a car.

Can't remember his name, but he used to drive for Williams, had a major accident in Nascar, lost one or both his legs, and now he does rally or touring cars, he just needs some adaptions to the car, but it should be possible for him to come back, I just wouldn't expect too much from him this season.

Hope he does come back from it.

ralphee 08-02-2011 07:13 AM

Alex Zanardi wasnt it?
