What rate to charge at ?

The fast/trickle charger i've bought will charge between 1.5amp & 5amp. I have a 4000mA NiMh battery.

I did put on charge at 2amps & it took over an hour to complete.

Can anyone tell me which is the rate to charge this battery ?

Thanks.

that was good info on the link but what do you discharge at

i'd charge the 4000mah at 4 amp,
i charge my 3300 mah nimh at 3.3 amp and have hed no problems yet,
dont know discharge rates as i've never only discharged mine, only cycled them on a charger that discharges and then charges automaticaly and i dont know at what rate it does it, as its auto

Does your discharger/charger have a temp sensor? If yes discharge as high as you like without the cells getting too hot (about 50 degrees?)

My old nimh charger only went as high as 20amp discharge. Never had any problems with my old IB4200's at this rate. I would recommend using an equaliser with highly strung nimh cells.

What I'd really recommend is lipo.

my charger discharges upto 1amp but when i set it it discharges at 0.7 amp theres also a voltage range but i set that at auto

1amp will take several hours to discharge. Don't bother with it. Run them in the car until nearly flat then equalize them.
nimh gear can be picked up for peanuts secondhand as most now use lipo
