2011 Avante Build Thread with comparison to original 1988 Avante
Finally found some time to build my 2011 Avante.... found some minor differences not mentioned in Tamiya official description between the rere Avante and the original Avante
will try to list them as i go along with my build.... You should really press charges against Tamiya for modifying the rerelease. :-) Nice pics of the building process, though. The Avante is very good looking but I would never run it.

It still looks as good now as it did way back then.
I very nearly bought one,but after reading the reviews and race reports of the time,I went with the Optima Mid Custom instead. You can see why it never worked as a racer,way,way,way over-engineered and complicated. Like I say though,it still looks fantastic,thanks for the review nismo. J-Meister,it should handle brushless on the smooth tracks of today. That was it's problem back in the '80's,it didn't handle,was fragile and complicated.It just didn't like the rough,bumpy,muddy outdoors "in a field" tracks that were most European(certainly a lot were in UK)circuits back then. Tamiya expected it to blow away the opposition(it was their first "real" attempt to take the 1/10th off road crowns),instead the Schumacher and Kyosho opposition blew it over the fence. Mark |

Tamiya used the original tooling. You can see on some of the plastic bit where the tools have been remachined. They must have a sky high pile of old tools somewhere. |
Amazing build thread Nismo! As a kid that was on the dream Rc car list along with a Egress!
Out of interest have they done or any plans to do a Egress? |

Yeah, great build thread!
The Avante is the best looking buggy of all times. Looks super from every angle. Looks nicer without options like Hi-cap dampers etc. Not gonna spoil the thread by adding pics, but have a look at this site: http://www.tamiya101.com/model_info.asp?id=72 Some nice pics from different angles. |

I think Paranoid Perry will drive both the Avante and the TRF502X.
After all, he did drive the first "TRF-made" car back in 1988. He´s a legend, ha ha! Will try to fit him in the 502X cockpit.:) |
