2011 Avante Build Thread with comparison to original 1988 Avante
Finally found some time to build my 2011 Avante.... found some minor differences not mentioned in Tamiya official description between the rere Avante and the original Avante
will try to list them as i go along with my build.... And now on to the pics... 1st step of the instruction is to build the rear gearbox and motor, and this is the 1st minor differences http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...smo/Slide1.jpg The motor plate for the 2011 is different from the original 1988 http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...otorplate2.jpg next up... is the lower and upper deck... which also have some minor differences http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...IMG_3789_1.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...ttpostdiff.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...opdeckdiff.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...pdeckdiff2.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...rplatediff.jpg rear gearbox with motor attached to lower deck http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...o/IMG_3808.jpg Front gearbox attached to the lower deck http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...o/IMG_3809.jpg Installation of rear arm rod (i uses a aftermarket part by Pargu for the E3) http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...o/IMG_3811.jpg The installation of the rear arm rod is also slightly different from the original http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...earroddiff.jpg Installation of upper deck http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...o/IMG_3812.jpg Rear Shock Tower installation http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...o/IMG_3813.jpg Rear Shock Tower attached to upper deck http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...o/IMG_3815.jpg Thats all for now... will post some more pics as i go along... btw... the plastic for the rere seems to be of better plastic material than the original 1 complain i have is some of the screws parts bags are not label... Tamiya onli had label for bag A~F, another 3 bags of screws/misc parts were not label anyway... welcome all comments... thanks |
The old steering system of the Avante was also given a minor updates

You should really press charges against Tamiya for modifying the rerelease. :-) Nice pics of the building process, though. The Avante is very good looking but I would never run it.

Awesome !!!! :wub Do you think this one can handle a brushless setup ?
|
It still looks as good now as it did way back then.
I very nearly bought one,but after reading the reviews and race reports of the time,I went with the Optima Mid Custom instead. You can see why it never worked as a racer, way, way, way over-engineered and complicated. Like I say though,it still looks fantastic, thanks for the review nismo. J-Meister,it should handle brushless on the smooth tracks of today. That was it's problem back in the '80's,it didn't handle, was fragile and complicated. It just didn't like the rough, bumpy, muddy outdoors "in a field" tracks that were most European(certainly a lot were in UK)circuits back then. Tamiya expected it to blow away the opposition(it was their first "real" attempt to take the 1/10th off road crowns),instead the Schumacher and Kyosho opposition blew it over the fence. Mark |
Nice job!!
Tamiya used the original tooling. You can see on some of the plastic bit where the tools have been remachined. They must have a sky high pile of old tools somewhere. |
Amazing build thread Nismo! As a kid that was on the dream Rc car list along with a Egress!
Out of interest have they done or any plans to do a Egress? |
Saw one of these in the flesh today, quite simply.....WOW!!!
What a piece of kit, you can see why it didn't work but as an RC engineering project :thumbsup::thumbsup: |
Awesome! Thank you for taking the time to dismantle your original car to show us the differences
I had an Egress back in the day... Memories  |
Yeah, great build thread!
The Avante is the best looking buggy of all times. Looks super from every angle. Looks nicer without options like Hi-cap dampers etc. Not gonna spoil the thread by adding pics, but have a look at this site: http://www.tamiya101.com/model_info.asp?id=72 Some nice pics from different angles. |
I thought the driver in the cab was part of the original avante? That looks so awesome!

I think Paranoid Perry will drive both the Avante and the TRF502X.
After all, he did drive the first "TRF-made" car back in 1988. He´s a legend, ha ha! Will try to fit him in the 502X cockpit.:) |
