DB-01 parts help

Hello all, I'm building a DB-01 to do some local club racing. Tamiya parts are not available here so everything has to be mail ordered. What spares should I order up to have on hand?. I've got front and rear a-arms already so those are covered. Thanks for your help!.

DCM 28-01-2011 07:09 AM

rear hubs
TRF501X diff halves for the rear diff
3mm drill blanks to make inner hinge pins
2.6mm drill blanks to make outer hinge pins
front steering knuckles
caster blocks

That should cover the basics.

DCM has said it all, only needing hinge pins depends on which Lower Arms you use. I donīt know about the original DB01 arms, if you use 501X arms you need a hinge pin everytime you break an Arm, if you use the High Traction Arms the hinge pin wonīt get deformed.
I use the 501 arm and can say: you can never have enough hinge pins :lol:

I've so far managed to bend the inner hinge pins everytime I've snapped a standard DB-01 arm, there are very strong arms!

I'd also stock up on the 'balls' that sit on the hinge pins as these tend to never be found when the hinge pin comes out.

Oh, forgot one thing, alloy suspension mounts, either 3Racing or Tamiya.

True about about the hingepins, I went through a phase of busting the front left wishbone on leg 2 of the Finals at my local club, 3 times in a row, and every time it took the hingepin with it:thumbdown:

Belts and spurs I have found come in handy in the spares dept'. And if random cartwheeling is your thing, then wing mounts too:blush:

Hope this helps:D

It is actually a dbo1r kit so I have the aluminum suspension mounts already. What part trees do I need for the rear hubs, front caster blocks, and knuckles?.

why dont you download the manual off tamiya's website and look up the parts you require yourself?

it's just plain stupid and lazy to ask someone else to do your dirty work:thumbdown:

Can't remember off the top of my head, and all my spares are packed away, a quick look on some websites like rcmart should show you the parts and stock availability.

Knuckle Arms: 51308 or reinforced ones: 51272

Here's a link to the manual

You can get the items from these shops (the link below are direct to the DB-01 pages of the sites)

c'mon guys, chill out! :eh?:

hey guys i just oredered the DB01R, and started reading Oople, since i trust you guys to help more with tamiya stuff other than some other "tech" sites.

this has been VERY useful to read. i am already making my list. i think the hinge pins and rear diff outdrives will be first on my list. i especially like the idea to use drill blanks!

scratch 21-02-2011 08:17 AM

Where does everyone shop to get their parts then?? Every where i look, the 3 racing diff or the 501x diffs are out of stock??

Jamie.T 21-02-2011 08:32 AM

Are you after the diff outdrives or diff gears?

Lowie 21-02-2011 09:24 AM

i bought the R-version also. One important update that was not included in the R-parts were the metal diffs. I was able to find one in HK and mounted that one in the back.

also I allready broke the front Shock tower three times. Each time also the top-part of the diff-housing (differential-cover) was broken.

I also found the std DB-01-arms the best as they are a bit more flexible then the 511-ones.

* differential-cover: A-parts 9005870
* front A-arms: F-parts 51311
* Shock towers: M-parts 51312

I recomend getting the Atomic Carbon 5mm Front damper stay. This way the only thing that will break under heavy impact will be the Diff cover but not the damper stay.

The Atomic towers are bullet proof! The front is very meaty and you would need to have one serious crash to break it. The rear one is also worth getting, super strong and additional shock mounting holes should you choose to run option shocks. (I'm selling a pair of towers in the for sale section! ;))

The outdrives...the 3racing part seems to be permanently out of stock everywhere and the 501 parts are bleedin expensive by comparison.
