plasma/lcd
ok its time for a new TV
what have you got or recommend?? plasma or lcd. im torn between the 2 have been looking at the panasonic 37ldx70 plasma but not sure, not going to be using sky HD or blueray or connecting ps3/xbox but possibly a nintendo wii..... |
Plasma is still better than lcd more depth/sharper colours, better blacks etc.
In the coming years lcd will be the one to have but for now go for plasma;) Pioneer are fantastic;) |
I have the 40" version of this: http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/t...6r87bdxxeu.asp
My mate has the 32" one. Imo it's a very good set, the PS3 and Wii look superb on it. My only niggle is the sound isn't amazing, it's good but wont set your ears on fire. It was given 5 stars on everything but sound on the reviews i read a while ago. It has 8000:1 contrast ratio, which is very good. The full HD sets have just come down in price and the new Samsung has a 15000:1 contrast ratio, which is on par with plasma, but mine was £630 + £70 for a big glass stand from Dixons using some special codes :) |
looked at the newer version the le40m87 comes out very highly think its between those 2 really but not 100% sure (and i work in the trade :D) lcd/plasma-plasma/lcd:eh?:

I really like my Panny TH37-PX70 plasma, the scart inputs are a bit poo but if you stick to the HDMI/Component inputs it's really good :) |
Go and look at the two back to back in Curry's or similar shop - That's the only way you can really see the difference in picture quality.
The difference between LCD and Plasma is pretty big, and I personally prefer LCD's - They seem brighter and due to not having a glass screen you don't get reflection or anything if you have the curtains open and TV on during the day. I've had my Sony LCD for about 2 years now and it's been superb, looks great even at a 70 degree angle. Guess it all comes down to personal preference (and budget of course) but i'd suggest going to look at the two around your budget and see what YOU prefer as everyone has an opinion but it's not always right  |
I'd be wary of in store displays, they are rarely the quality it will be on it's own. Small shops or specialists are probably the way to go to see what a tv looks like.

Cant go wrong with a Samsung.
We have the r37, it think, one of last years models, and its ace. I'm pretty fussy about monitors and TV's and i'm more than happy with this one. Blacks are decent, colors are good. Sound is pants though.. lol but thats what a hifi or surround system is for!! Craig ----------------- http://www.craigmagee.co.uk |
I have the Samsung 42" Plasma it's brilliant especially playing xbox 360 and even the wii game are mint on it. We also have the 40" LCD version wich is good but not as sharp as the plasma.
Sony don''t bother with Plasma's anymore as they say LCD are far better But at the end of day it's personal choice. |
I've just bought the very latest Pioneer Kuro 42" plasma. Words cannot describe the picture quality at full HD. :o:o:o :D
|
Samsung screens are a little picky with inputs though, we've found that here at work (video distribution systems).

Plasma still looks many times better to my eyes.
I have a Samsung 50" and it is nothing short of superb ...... input selection and quality are also better than many others. If not Samsung I'd say look at the LG's, did a LOT of research before I bought my screen and every time it came down to Samsung and LG! |
Our 42" Samsung Plasma at work suffers from screen burn terribly though :(

Have you got a Richer sounds shop handy?
I was torn, bought a 32" Samsung, great picture and love the design but they wouldn't honour 3 year warranty they advertised where I bought it, so took it back bought a 32" Aldi just got money back total poo a one sceond lip sync fault and digi box bit was naff. So popped down to Richer sounds 40 on display and they swapped them from HD composite input to normal aerial so I could get true pic quality as I will be using it, he knocked me £100 off this months LG 32" that made it £499 plus £49 for 5 years warranty. couldn't beat it on price and picture looked as good as 2 plasmas next to it The 26" is in PCWorld doorway at £449 http://uk.lge.com/products/model/det...v_32lc46.jhtml Tim may be cheaper elsewhere by now, but they had a good range to compare |
weve had a few plasmas and LCD's. i prefere LCD as long as its a good one....we dont really buy anything but LG Lcd's and plasmas....i think there ace. my TV is the swede! 42" lcd 1080.....HD xbox'ing is the bollox!
