HTC App killer
 

Hi guys,excuse probably a dumb question but if i dont ask i dont know...after some advice from people using htc smart phones..when i have finished webb browsing on my phone and return to the home page am i still connected to the nett and thus using up my internet allowance?
Is this what an 'app killer' is for?

It your not transmitting then no, your not using data, if its an android os as well, just keep pressing back till you get to a static page.

Task killers arn't needed any more on android phones, they handle it quite well these days.

no need for any sort of 'task killer' app on an android smartphone, the OS handles the requests properly. When you go back to 'home' the app goes into a sort of sleep state (which is why if you hold down the home button you get the last 6/8 apps you've accessed), but the browser won't be using your data connection for sure.

Irrespective of the need to use one or not, I use the free version of Advanced Task Killer.

Doubly makes sure any apps are closed and also free's up memory when playing some of the more 'resource hungry' games.

And as for the Internet app, once it has loaded in that page it won't use any more of your allowance. The things that do use it are email checking, facebook app etc.

If you've got a desire and you're sure you don't want the internent part working until you need it, just hold down the power switch as if you were going to turn it off and select the "mobile network" option to toggle it on and off (other phones have this option but don't know where it is).

I think you will find that on the Android Smartphone when you have finished using any application is continues to run in the background, i have also downloaded the advanced task killer free from the market place and you the just add the widget to your home screen, when finished with an application just press the task killer, extends battery life an awfull lot.

If you want to see just how many applications your phone is running even when you have closed them, just open the task killer in your menu and you will find every application still running.

I have had andriod smartphones since they very first came out and the first thing i do with a new phone is download this app!

Next time you run it and kill the tasks, go into your running applications and see which are already running. They re-appear.

Used to be the case in windows mobile that you needed these, but android handles memory differently. Try it without for a week and see if you get any different results. Mines been more stable since I stopped killing tasks

I did try the android task killer but toad is right..the apps are still running

Basically, don't worry about it GNR :)

bottom line is task killers don't work. leave it to the OS to sort out.

Just tried that on my Desire, none of the apps that I 'killed' were on my running services list. They do still show up when you press and hold the Home key though.
