the R/C Racing Community Is Ace
 

Its so awesome to see so many characters meeting up every weekend up and down the country in the spirit of competition, the Petit at the weekend highlighting this - making new friends from across Europe and the world, watching some awesome, fast racing, and some entertaining racing all the way through the heats and finals. Its a reminder at how great our sport can be. To all those club racers out there, if you can make it farther and wider than your local club try and do so, even abroad; if you don't win, don't worry its the experience that counts. To all those thinking of entering the oOple race or other similar perceived high standard races, don't be afraid, just get your entry sent off its a great experience and you'll make new friends and learn a lot. Another thing that seemed to stand out at the petit was the number of people who race who actually work in the industry, not just weekend warriors. Must be an interesting area to work with opportunities for travel and input into products that sell world-wide and are well known. A few of us were talking at the weekend about how mad we were to be in a shed with toy cars for 4 days and getting up at 5.30 to race when our mates are out and about at home or out in town or whatever but the people you meet, places you go, competitive aspect or racing all make for memorable experiences.

Just thought i'd share that thought for the day.

And why can't our council see that and let us have planning permission for our indoor track at RHR :cry:

you meet new friendy people at virtualy every meeting you go to.
Working within the trade must be one of the best jobs ever too.

Admittedly half of the enjoyment of RC for me is the banter and the laughs I have at the track. You meet loads of new people and have a good laugh, good times.

Amen James. Being surrounded by the friendly oOple-ites at last years Invernational was the best thing I did in 2010 :)

I agree, RC racing is a great social sport

Yup - It's the best job in the world !!! :p

However, there is a flip side that many don't appreciate in that you can never get away from your job if it is your hobby as well. That's fine when you're on top of your game, but if for any reason you are not, then there is no escape.

That said - I'll learn to live with that!

As James says - its a terrific community to be a part of - banter, support and intense but friendly competition. I can't think of too many other competitive arenas where you'll go all out to beat your opposition one minute and then kick back and share a beer or three with them the next.

I think a weekly (at least) e-mail to them to forums like this and threads like this, would surely start to help them understand the significance of somewhere like you have planned James.

I know i along with many others signed your petition, but there's no harm in reminding everyone again is there.

Lets keep it to the top, so it's always in people/racers minds and under the noses of the Council Chiefs.

Any media interest to help you out there as well ???


Oh and agree with everything you said about the RC Racing/Gathering. I didn't enter because of only just getting back into off-road, but i did come up for a watch on Saturday from 4 o'clock. It was an awesome experiance and hopefully next year i'll be competing along with everyone else.

Indeed since travelling a bit more to other clubs and events like Petit I've met some great people.

I'd do it more if I wasn't involved in running TORCH
