Foam inserts

Is it essential to run foam inserts in tyres that are to be ran indoors?

Well in my opinion i would have to say yes. I used losi hard rear foams at the worksop meeting on sunday, and a rear hard losi foam cut in half for the fronts for 2wd that is.

I dont think it matters where you run your car you will still need inserts as these keep the tyre's profile consistent when weight is placed on them.

I run Mr O Racing foams which are available in two compounds, either soft (blue) or grey (hard). I have tended to find that the soft ones give more forwards drive while the harder ones give a little more side bite and are a little more consistent on a smoother surface.
