Shortening servo wires
 

I need to tidy up the electrics in my buggy. I have never tried to shorten my servo and receiver leads. Any tips would be gratefully received. Or is there somewhere that could do it professionally?

I've done a few of these recently. I'd use the first plug on a dead servo or spare bit of wire to get some practice.

You'll need a low temperature soldering iron with a very fine tip to do it well.

I just use needle nose pliers rather than a crimp tool.

Or take the bottom of the servo off and desolder the cable, shorten it and resolder. No need to buy new connectors !!!! ;) Still use a very fine tip though !!

After many (many!) years of doing this to servos and speedos, the best method is the crimping tool by a country mile.

In that time, I've managed to make intermittent connections with the pliers method, melt miles of cable sleeving with a soldering iron, create soldered pins that no longer fit into the plug, and ruin two servo circuit boards! Since I bought my crimping tool I haven't looked back. It takes a couple of attempts to get the knack of it, but it gives a perfect joint, that fits the plug, every time. HTH :)

Never actually thought of that. Have to give it a try. I've got like a dozen dead servos in the cupboard, practice on them first.
