Trim or Not to Trim...

Hi Guys

I’m now starting to put my B4.1 together and I have a little question regarding the aerial, I will be running the Futarba 3VCS with the 40Mhz high response receiver (part No R203HF) but the aerial wire is about twice the length of the aerial tube.
So my question is can I trim it to length???

many thanks
G

I had the same problem i have left mine the lenght it came and got some small wire heatshrink and used that to keep the aerial wire to the outside of the tube

don't trim ,never ever trim the Ariel wire its a tuned length wrap it up near receiver.

What about 2.4ghz then?

You can't cut that either. The wire usually quite short anyway, although with my Futaba receivers they are quite long. Just coil it around an antenna tube and heatshrink over it.

So why have I seen stubby ones then?

Because the wires are short some people just trim the tube to fit.
Equally lots of people don't even run an aerial tube with their 2.4g

My 2.4Ghz aerials are just wrapped around things inside the car, the receiver itself being a good one! Mine aren't even in vertical tubes, and are not protruding outside the shell.

Ran the last 2 years indoors and outdoors (including nationals) like that with no issues...and def wouldn't trim them short! Just hide them inside, but try and keep the last inch visible so it's not buried amonst things.

HPI do some 400mm aerial tubes for the Baja. No excuse to cut them down now.
