VW Beetle help

The missus has a 2000 Beetle. Its just started to hunt when idling and is using a shed load a petrol, its done just over 61K, anyone with a clue as to what may be wrong and whether is safe to continue driving until I get it booked in to the garage ? Had a full service at the end of Sept

That sounds reaaly bad, i imagine it will never pass another mot and possibly every body panel will fall off too.
I will give you a grand for it, can collect tomorrow:thumbsup:

Maybe join or look through a Beetle forum? Perhaps someone has already resolved this kinda problem.

I can remember my old rover (B.O.S) had they same issue and i solved it by taking the air filter out and spraying this special stuff down it.

Hope this helps lad

MAF sensor fault my money is on

My wifes beetle (2000 W-reg) did something similar, but the engine warning light came on too. It turned out to be the Lambda sensors that were at fault. Once they were replaced all was good - it turns out she drove about 3000 miles with the light on too. :woot:

Im just shocked that your other half is female :D

i'd say its possibly the lambda sensor (oxygen sensor), your car needs plugging in at a garage sooner rather than later as it may cause your cat to fail with all the extra fuel going through it.

shame there isn't a meeting this weekend. I could of brought my laptop and hooked it up to let you know exactly what's causing it.

basically both of the suggestions do similar jobs. measure the content of air passing them and let the computer decide how to adjust itself. if either is reading off the ECU will be trying to correct a problem that isn't there.

just so you know the MAF sensor is the quicker and cheaper to replace, but the part generally costs more.
