Orion vortex on Mamba problem

Hey,

Got a new Vortex 6.5 yesterday, fitted it to my B4, hard wired to my mamba ESC, when i pull away it jsut sits there and judders, not going anywhere, yet give it a nudge and its fine, fantastic even.

Any ideas on whats wrong? is it a dodgey motor or dodgey settings on the speedo?

Thanks in advanced :)

Baisc things but make sure the motor screws arent to long

Check there is nothing inside of the motor that may be binding.

Have you dropped it at anytime???

Other than that try ajusting your speedo settings may have it on to low of an acceleration setting or something

Also what gearing you got it on??????

Motor screws are bout 5mm long, geared to 84/18. Should have said that it only does this occasionaly, well, very often, not everytime i go to set off though.

Sounds like cogging...Try running a smaller pinion and play with timing advance and start power.

snap i run that setup too, but in my losi xxxcr. i often get it cogging, a setup would be great though, is anyone elses louder than normal BL's?

Toms dads car is ruddy loud! didn't know he had that in there, but it does make quite abit of noise.

It ran like a whisper last night, just not off the start line :o It really does sound like the speedo doesnt know where the the rotor is yet its meant to :eh?: So a set-up would be awesome, thanks.

Thats a vid of what happens, it starts working again afer i paused the camera and pushed it a little.

P.s. sorry for the quality.

Tried a different tried & tested setup and it didnt work so i think there is a problem with the motor, i may try a smaller pinion but its already geared fairly low (18/84), I'll let stockton modeller have a look (thats where i got it from), Adam from there has 2 so he can attemp to sort it, he knows more than me :D

my vortex 6.5 with the mamba at 18 tooth gearing seems to work fine, (occasional slight cogging on startup). The way your car is acting in that clip is the same as mine did with a sensored motor in it (nosram storm)

It works with standard setup on the the speedo, and shouldnt be cogging that badly?

Is the filmware the latest update?

yeah these motors are louder than normal BL, could be the built in fan thing. But they have more of the feel of a brushed motor.

I'll set the speedo to default now and try it, if it doesnt work i'll just take it in.

EDIT: ok that didnt work

Anyone else got any setup 'coz i just cant get it to work  Iv tried pretty much everything and its still coggs bad on startup, albeit considerably better than how it was.

I would plug the esc into the pc and set to original settings, then also make sure the settings are on normal for the timing instead of high (as this setting is for mamba motors only). It should work then, as I had the same problem with my Peak brushless motor and went through the setting proceedure on the pc and it now is a missile. also check the screws as well as they can hit the fan at the front of the motor and make it stop as well, so you need to either put smaller ones on or a metal heat sink plate in front of the motor

Ive had a play with the computer settings today and found that if you set the start power to high and turn the timing on the motor so the letter 'B' on the endbell is under the 'C' tab it works very well, just hope it stays like that :eh?:

Just buy a sensored speedo already ;-)

josh_smaxx 26-10-2007 06:40 PM

I would but it took me long enough to save up for the motor, what with having to buy all the hundreds of spares i need inbetween. Might get one for crimbo though :)
