To buy or not to buy
Now I know this may be very difficult on a Losi thread but can I ask for responses to be as honest and impartiaol as possible please.
Im very tempted to run a XXXCR this season but I have a number of questions regarding the chassis before I plough straight in 1. Does anybody know whether the rumours are true that Horizon now see the 10th class as 2nd fiddle to the 8ths and therefore the support from the distributor, Support from team drivers trackside will be reduced significantly ( for example I heard a rumour that Tricky and Darren Bloomfield will not race the 10th nats to concentrate on 8th scale) 2 Ive raced Associated cars in various classes for years now, Would it be fair to say that the Losi is more difficuult to set up/maintain?. I noticed at the North West regionals last year that the Losi team drivers appeared to be running big variations of the chassis, one in particular was almost running the spec from the original XXX 3. Id consider myself a relitively good driver ( when I put my mind to it) but I dont like to spend the whole meeting wrenching trying to get the car to work, I dont mind but if the car has to be drastically altered track to track then I would probably stay away Ive heard such differing views on the chassis that I thought I would put it to you people to convince me ( or discourage me) into buying this chassis. Any help would be great as Im planning on getting my new car in the next few weeks ready for winter Cheers Chris |
Hi chris
I was debating the same question a few weeks ago i decided to chaneg to the CR as far as im aware bloomers and tricky still will be running 10th next year And as for supporting cars they will still be supporting it its only the xx4 they may stop supporting. I think its just alot of hot air going around. A |
I love my buggy. And on the high traction track you will probably race on it will have plenty of steering, mine has plenty on my dusty, hard-packed track.
Both buggies are great but the main thing is driving style, if you can, look for drivers to help you decide and/or drive their cars if they let you. |
i think annie has hit the nail on the head, its all down to driving style... i have both cars and here's my opinion....
The B4 is a very good car and very easy to drive, it requires very little maintenance (i had mine for over a year and the diff is still as new, not touched it) i have been running it with a 6.5 brushless most of the season. The B4 to me seems a very relaxed car to drive, and can take alot of abuse! i cant think of much else to write... Good car :) The xxx cr is my preffered choice, again vey good car, requires a little more maintenance though (in my experience). i have only jus recently bought this car second hand towards the end of the season. but have run it quite a few times. The car seems very settled but it feels more aggressive than the B4 to drive, it feels like as a driver, im doing more with the car and feels faster than the B4. again Good car!:) as for your point made in you second question... the reason for people running variations on the chassis was (someone correct me if im wrong) that last year some people were running the BK2 which wasnt suited to the UK, id say that the xxxcr takes the best of both the original xxx and the BK2 and puts them together into making the xxxcr. hope that makes sense? these are just my opinions of course, but i prefer the losi xxx cr to the B4:cool: if i can help you any further on this subject, feel free to drop me a PM Cheers, Tom |
Cheers for the responses lads. I got the money for my X-6 ive just sold this morning so im tempted to head down my LHS and buy a chassis!!!
Still not entirely sure which one though! Chris |
the thing i dont like about the CR is that my mate, at a club night, is constantly changing the set up on it, almost every race, trying to get it right, (sorry craig :D) nd its the same outside, seems like there is a different set up for every sungle track, whereas the B4 is almost the same everywhere,
so because of this, i wud prefer the B4, (dont get me wrong, the CR is still a great car!) just my thoughts:eh?: |
With regard to the XXXcr I rarely change the setup on mine from track to track. The biggest change I made all of last weekend was to go from Blue front springs to black. I found the key to running the car consistantly was to add between 30-50 grams of weight to the chassis (never go past the servo keep all weight in the main chassis area)
When i go club racing and try different things on the car I always seem to end up back to my original setup. |
