I think you might have to transcode them to another format thats more easily editable.

There's some free transcoders out there - that'll let you import and save as a different format without losing (much) quality.
Have a google about for 'transcode sony avchd' or something - sorry I can't be more help.

Try just changing the extender from .mov to .mpg

Assuming you's Windows and Movie Maker (versions?) then you may need to ad a codec pack to windows.

Look at http://www.afterdawn.com/software/au...mediacoder.cfm for transcodeing

and http://sourceforge.net/projects/vlc-mp/ is a video player that plays most formats

You should be able to 'add file' first entry in the file menu, then chose from the tabbed thingys below -preview, generic then VIDEO, change the format to something like WMV or AVI, click start transcodeing and you are away,

you may have to code the audio as well ?

can you see the extender on the movie file ? Movie.mov or Movie.avi

Sorry, the download tends to offer AVI converter, (must be an advert) I did the same, I changed the url above to the soundforge site,

I have just used mediacoder to convert a file movie.mts to movie.avi which I can open/edit in movie maker V2 on XP

when I run mediacoder it opens a browser window (more confusion) close it and mediacoder should be in the left hand block on the start bar

Sorry again, guess I am not being to helpful, did you get a disc with software with the camera - just a thought

the video file may have a name or number followed by an extender .avi is what the older tape camcorders used to save as. The avchd cameras may use .mov or .mts or whatever.

problem is computers & editing software has not kept up with cameras, and windows movie maker has limited import options anyway.

I find this site helpful http://www.videohelp.com/

Mediacoder - best from http://www.afterdawn.com/software/au...mediacoder.cfm

(sourceforge seem to have lost it)
