Battery Questions

I have the DESC410 on pre-order but i had a question that i think the dex410 owners may be able to answer.

Does the battery hold down support or reinforce anything else on the chassis?

It seems like with or without it the stiffness of the chassis itself wouldn't change and the center slipper/motor mount would not flex any more or less without it. I ask because being more of a club racer i was going to run the saddle packs i already have which, according to posted documentation, will be 5-6mm too tall. I was planning to not install the stock battery hold down to get the space under the rear drive shaft for the larger batteries and fab a custom hold down.

The battery strap just holds the batterys down, in fact it has quite a lot of flex in it anyway, no problems removing it and making something yourself.

Hope this helps - Sam

The batt clamp is purely a holder, and adds no support to the chassis.
Removing and fabing a custom battery clamp will not increase the room for thicker batts on the DEX410. If the DESC410R is designed the same (and it appears to be), it too, will not add room by changing the batt clamp. The shaft will need to be raised, as well as the center slipper/diff. This could become an issue for Durango if LiPo's continue to become thicker.

I finally have my 410R on the way and need to pick up a saddle pack for it. The one I'm interested in is Reedy's new 60c 5200 pack. It is 25.1mm high. I haven't built it yet to know if there is any wiggle room in the 25mm battery height requirement. I can't imagine .1 mm would be a deal breaker, but before I drop $120 I was hoping somebody could confirm it wouldn't be an issue.

#627 Capacity: 5200mAh
Voltage: 7.4V (2S)
Dimensions (mm): 69.5 x 47 x 25.1
Discharge: 60C cont., 80C burst
Weight (g): 298

Maybe this only apply for me but you might have to consider some swelling of the batteries. I run the 2009 spec that fit 23 mm batteries, but my 23 mm batteries (IP 5000 mAh 35C) are now 24.5 mm. Do you other guys have the same experience?

I've never had that happen with any of my hard case lipos. Some of my non-cased ones have.

Just finishing my new 410R build and I tried to fit the LRP VTEC 5000 50c packs from my B44 and they don't fit. The official height is shown as 24.83mm, but when I check mine they are 25.20mm. This is just enough to put a bow in the strap making it too short to fit the pin.

As I have two packs new at close on Ģ90 I will obviously have to find a work-around. Measuring the height I have to play with to ensure that I don't foul the drive shaft, I reckon I could easily get away with strapping to at least 27mm. Why didn't Durango do this in the first place? Doahhh.

I'll get back when I have the new design - I think I'll call in 'Cream Extreme'.

I have orion 4500mah 45c and I couldn't get the pin through to start with so I popped a couple of slim washer under the piece at the front and now they fit perfectly.

When i build my 410R i first made the mistake to mount the battery strap on the lower position and was wondering why my 5000 LRP Vtec cells didnīt fit. I then found out what was wrong and now they fit without any issue.

Muratti you are a star. How stupid am I, I never noticed that there are two holes you can fit the pin into. Having three holes at the slipper mount side should have given me a clue. Anyway, the LRP's fit very nicely now. Many thanks.

Oh god me too! I've sat the last few nights trying to squeeze the LRP lipos in, now I feel like an idiot. Thank you!
